How do I get at the motor of this Eureka?

I need to get inside this Eureka to find out why it smells like a trash fire whenever I turn it on, but I can't see any obvious ways of dissembling it. Ideas?

    Just a 1980-something Hoover Convertible

Picked her up thrifting today to replace the other 80's Hoover that we killed sucking up pet hair. Hoping this one last longer. I like the power switch on the handle!

    A good haul this weekend

I went to three estate sales and brought home two vacuums: a stunning Eureka Vanguard, and an equally stunning Kirby Classic. I also received a lovely Eureka Carpet Beautifier in the mail. The Vanguard was all of $2. I do not know anything about this vacuum, I did not even know they existed. It...

Electrolux XXX colors and motor question

What colors was the Electrolux 30 made in? Usually they are a greenish-brown color, but there are pictures floating around the internet of Lux 30's in various shades and patterns of blue, and grey. Anyone know the history there? I picked up my first Lux 30 today, and she is a light robins egg...

    History of steam cleaners/carpet cleaners?

The only vintage carpet shampoo system I am aware of is the Kirby Rug Renovator, which I believe made its first appearance in the mid 60's? Were there any other electronic home products made for cleaning carpets using soap and water prior to this, or during the 70's?

    Kenmore handheld vacuum

Here is a cute little Kenmore handheld vacuum I found the other day. I don't know anything about it. I would love to use it but I don't know where to get filter bags!

Seeking info on this Eureka Roto-Matic Power Team

My latest vacuum is a Eureka Roto-Matic Power Team. At least, I think that is the name. It has a model number of 1265A, and it is attached to a power nozzle with the model number 1230A. I opened up the canister to check on the motor, and there is a circular paper card over the cord winder with...

    Bissell Carpet Sweeper Handles

Today I picked up a beautiful Bissell "Vanity" carpet sweeper (push broom). It is metal, painted yellow with bright orange flowers. It is in great shape except for the handle. The handle is a 3-section metal rod, but it is missing the top section. Does anyone on here collect Bissell sweepers...

    Eureka 1470b

I grabbed one today because it was under $10. I was disappointed to find out that it is from the 80s and not from the 70s as I had originally hoped, but the orangish-red and white color will match my kitchen well. I get to pick it up on Wednesday. Did Hoover or Eureka make any orange colored...

Kirby Sanitronic Vll vs Dual Sanitronic 50

Just for fun, here is my D7 (left) next to my D50 (right). The D7 is LOUD. The motor probably needs servicing? The bag on the D7 is a factory replacement. The emptor on the D7 is probably from a different Kirby but I am not sure which one. It is dark brown on the bottom instead of tan.

Arnold the Interstate Engineering Corp canister vac

It was made by the Interstate Engineering Corp. It is old. I have named it Arnold. That is literally all I know about this vacuum cleaner that I just picked up. I am off to do some research on it. I keep telling myself I have enough canister vacuums.

    Sanitronic Vlll and white cord

I got a Sanitronic Vlll today with a set of attachments. Various parts appear to have been replaced over time. Replaced bag, mismatched wheels and trim.. But it looks clean and well cared for (for a vacuum). It has a white Kirby-branded cord. Is this the same mythical white cord found on the 562?

    Kirby D50 replacement trim?

Does anyone out there supply replacement trim for the Kirby Dual Sanitronic 50?

    Filter Queen 31 find!

I found this FQ 31, plus F48 Power Nozzle ("Pow R Nozzle" in the instruction pamphlet), plus a myriad of miscellaneous attachments while thrifting today. Can anyone tell me when this model of FQ and Power nozzle were manufactured? I have heard that FQ's are good machines, but I really don't know...

    Amperage on Hoover Constellation 86?

Random question, but does anyone know what amp motor the Constellation 86 uses?

    Servicing vintage vacuums

I am seeking tips and info for general servicing of vintage vacuums. Do you have a checklist that you run through when you get a machine that probably hasn't been serviced in 30 years? I only know the most basic stuff. Cleaning off dirt, pulling pet hair out of the motor, and replacing bags and...

    Eureka 640 A, 500 series

I'm looking for some information on a small Eureka canister vacuum, marked as a model 640 A 500 series. I cannot find anything online. It looks the same as the Eureka 550, which I also can't find any info on. Picture below is of a 550.

    Kirby G3

At the Goodwill I work for, my new supervisor just insisted on pricing a G3 for $100 because her mom "spent hundreds on her Kirby". I told her that I hadn't ever spent more than $40 even on my truly vintage machines, to no avail. We have had G5's sit here for weeks at $30. Oh well. She also...

Any small vintage stick vacs with a brushroll?

Were there any vintage upright stick vacs made with a powered brush roll? I am looking for something no later than the 70's to replace my modern eureka.

What is cream and yellow and gorgeous all over?

My wonderful "new" Hoover Constellation 86! This was the last vacuum on my (albeit short) "must have" wish list. The floating action works great and does not blow away debris away as I thought it might. It does not have great suction compared to my 1970's shop vac. It took a while to get my...
