Can someone remind me what the Hoover serial numbers meant in the 1970s. I know the model number is first, but how do you work out the month and year and what do the other numbers mean? Also, when did this system of numbering start and finish?

Here's one of my 370s - the only one I have ever seen which is polished like the big Hoovers. My theory is that it is one of the 1935 Jubilee models - maybe they were polished to make them special. Pity I dont have the right bag!

Here are the first 3 UK Hoover model 652 series 1959 - 1967. I did have a blue 652 from early 1970s but I really like these first 3 because they are totally colour co-ordinated. The later ones used off white handles and rubber guard. Maybe Hoover was cutting costs. I did use artistic licence...
