A wonderful day in St. Louis

My friends Tom Gasko and Derreck Fricke had a WONDERFUL day in St. Louis today. They went to a vacuum shop that's been open for 40 years and were allowed to go through the basement. What treasures they found...there were THOUSANDS of vacuum cleaners in the basement <br Tom told me that he got...

I wonder what could be in here?

3 boxes! I guess that means it's something large...

My Christmas present--the new Hoover Constellation!

I still can't believe it, but my parents gifted me a brand-new Hoover Constellation S3341 in Pearl White for Christmas this year. This was something I wasn't specifically asking for either, which makes it that much better! In case some of you are wondering why I didn't post this on Christmas...

    SCORE--one dream machine down!

When I was about 13-14 or so I started posting on Ivacuumcleaners.com as well as the Hooverland and vintagevacuumdustcollectors Yahoo groups. Around that time there was a Hoover "Custom Convertible" or U4007 on eBay. Well, on one of the Yahoo groups, I forget which, I stumbled across the...

    This is interesting...

Just another Rainbow model D (I believe), but with a floor polisher attachment that utilizes the motor like the Fairfax! Needless to say I've never seen one with this attachment on eBay before...

    Hoover Medallion

Hi everyone, I just bought a maroon Hoover medallion off of eBay from Marty K., thinking it would fit my Model 65 (whose medallion is VERY scratched up as well as dented). I didn't mind switching the color if it fit, however, this one happens to be much too big. Is there anyone out there who...

New finds, and one slightly modified machine...

Looks like an ordinary Eureka-made compact canister, doesn't it? Guess again! You can't tell in this picture, but it has been modified with a 7.1-amp motor. It is much bigger than the original motor (with bad bearings, and the commutator didn't look too good either). At first, it was way too big...

    Eureka canister question

For the Eureka experts: Can the motor in a canister be disassembled in order to grease the bearings? The reason I ask is because my Bradford (Eureka) compact canister is showing symptoms of "Dry Bearing Syndrome", and has sort of a "dry whine" occasionally, that either happens right when I turn...

Mother's Mag Wheel Polish on Plastics...

Hi everyone, I don't know if you already know this or not, but I thought I'd share it. Last month when he was here, David mentioned that Mother's mag wheel/aluminum polish not only helps to shine metals, but works great at getting furniture scuffs out of plastic bases as well. Well, I was a...

    What's better than brand new?

Why, NEW OLD STOCK, of course! Thanks to David letting me know about a FANTASTIC eBay "gold mine", I had the wonderful opportunity to buy three NOS Eureka 1400-series uprights, as well as a 3300-series canister, on eBay. While they weren't exactly cheap (the total, including shipping and another...

    RCA Whirlpool canister

I've never seen one like this before, only the power-nozzle-equipped version that Skip has. Perhaps this was a lower-end model? Appears to be in nice shape...

    Convertible 65 beater bar...need advice!!!

Hi everyone, I just re-assembled the Hoover Convertible 65, and while it's not exactly pretty it runs like new, however, I'm having a hard time with the beater bar I rebuilt from parts that Tom Anderson sent me. After I put it together it was like new, but after I installed it in the machine...

    Hoover Model 65 Bag

Hi everyone, I recently bought a Hoover Convertible Model 65 on eBay, and it's not in the best cosmetic shape by any means. The first one, really, that I have had to do a complete teardown on in order for it to clean up well. Thankfully, the motor is in excellent shape under the "cake" of dirt...

In a bit of a Hoover parts dilemma here...

Hi everyone, After 6 months of waiting, I was finally able to get 4 new "grooveless" agitator ends for the U1025 Junior and 1020 Convertible beater bars to accomodate the new bearings, and was looking forward to installing them. However, when I actually went to install them, I encountered one...

    Constellation RIPOFF!

Today I went to the infamous Hoover store in Houston (the same store that gave me the wrong $%@!^$% bearings for the Convertible and Junior) to order new agitator endcaps, and some of the new machines were on display. The Constellation in Pearl White had arrived since the last time I was there...

    What is this?

I've never seen a DS80 with red/burgundy trim or with this style of belt lifter cap before. Possible vac shop rebuild, perhaps? http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Kirby-Dual-Sanitronic-80-Vacuum-Cleaner_W0QQitemZ270034701330QQihZ017QQcategoryZ43525QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

    Hoover Special 105--motor coil advice

A while back, I bought a Hoover Special 105 on eBay that runs VERY slowly but is in decent shape otherwise. As per Marty's instructions, I finally got around to removing the motor cover, and took a look at the components. Everything is in good shape, and the bearings turn freely. I plugged it...

    Possible Wilfa clone?

I saw this strange "Ford" vacuum on eBay...have never heard of it before, but I thought the chrome ends looked familiar! Also, check out those beefy runners! http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=130021767926&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=003

    Innovation or Aggrevation?

Actually, that is not always true. The Quadraflex in my lower-end Concept One (U3109) is plastic, whereas my TOL U3105 has the metal Quadraflex as you describe.
