    Kirby Website redone at last!!!!

But isn't that because.. as Kirby would say. "It’s not just a vacuum, it is a complete home care system." Kirby's are not marketed simply as vacuum cleaners. And the truth is, they do more than vacuum. There are, of course, arguements on both sides of whether these other "functions," really do...

    Original Hoover Constellation Model 86

I do remember that... Hoover made several different blue colors for the Constellation. There was one blue that sort of coordinated with the blue of the Convertable Model 70. I don't know much about those later model Constellations. Certainly Tom Anderson would know. One thing about...

    Original Hoover Constellation Model 86

Perhaps it's a different blue... ...here is the Model 82

    Original Hoover Constellation Model 86

Oh... ...now I understand what you meant. An original as opposed to the new 2007 version. That makes sense. Arent' words funny! It's so easy to find different meanings in exactly the same words! :)

    Original Hoover Constellation Model 86

Thanks for the offer.... ...and I think...perhaps I may be wrong...but I think the original Constellation was actually Model 82; and it was two tone blue. When I was a youngster, our neighbor had one. Also, I have a picture of mine in the collections album on this web site. The original Blue...

    Kirby Dual Sanitronic 50 question

Kirby Attachments and High Speed I am no expert in this by any means. I do know that many say the carbon brushes in the motor of a Kirby wear down faster with the higher speed. It makes sense that they would. I suspect - though I don't know for sure -- that many factors probably affect the...

    Queen Mary Hoover!

Here's another picture ...like the one Charles-Richard posted above, but larger. It shows them using a Hoover 160 [our 150]. Also, in the corner you can see another person using a Dustette on the upholstery. http://homepage.ntlworld.com/paul.linnell/sso/queenmary.jpg

    Bison questions

Back in the early spring of 1974... ...I had noticed these beasts in the window of their dealership here in Memphis. It was next to the Levitz Furniture Store where some friends of mine had decided to purchase some furniture and asked me to take a look at it with them. I had not been to that...

    Speed of Hoovering

Simon, Charles-Richard, and Jack, Love these old Hoovers!! And yes: I remember my mother's Hoover dealer coming over to the house to bring bags or a belt or do some minor service on her Model 62. He was always reminding her and me that the vacuum works best when you move it slowly over the...

Scott & Fetzer Home Sanitation System

Retromom... An important question for anyone who doesn't know the history of this vacuum. Jim Kirby was the engineer and inventor who designed all the vacuum cleaners for Scott/Fetzer. They had a company that machined metal tools, expecially fire arms. They had the money and the equipment to...

    Yeah!!!!! We've Hit 200!

Yes Fred, Thanks for all you do for us! You've made it possible for so many people of varied backgrounds and places to join together in this one common interest. It's really quite remarkable.

    Kirby Website redone at last!!!!

No machine ... ...just a hint was typical of Kirby advertising. Their ads in magazines during the 1950s NEVER showed the cleaner! In fact I know of only one Kirby ad that showed the cleaner; and that was one of the very first ads that Kirby did. It actually had Jim Kirby holding the motor...

What are your favorite Kirby models????

Fred... How awful that those boxes were ruined! Hope you can get the 561 restored soon. Your other Kirby's are really beautiful machines! But what is it with the Kirby rebuild program? How did you get them to restore your Dual 80 in such perfect condition? In any case, I would make sure you...

What are your favorite Kirby models????

Kirby Rebuilds... Yes, Charles-Richard, they were in fact all done up in Red and Gray! And that was the only color Kirby I had ever seen until my teenage years. It was at least 1965 or so when I first saw a black trimmed Kirby -- our neighbor's 505. We had lived next to them for years but I...

What are your favorite Kirby models????

Tom ... Hi, Yes, I treasture that 561. I don't think the owner EVER used it. The attachments were never removed from the box, you could tell. The Model 1-C Kirby was on the market, I believe, between 1935 and 1937. There seems to be some question as to exactly when the models changed. It...

What are your favorite Kirby models????

scott55405 Scott.. Yes the large nozzle was an extra item and the brush to go with it. The instruction manual has it as an option for carpeting "too delicate for the revolving brush." And yes the brush strip was attached for bare floors.

What are your favorite Kirby models????

Further notes ...as I said above, of all my Kirbys, the late 500 series is my favorite..but I don't use them much for cleaning. The Model 1-C needs some work --especially the bag! I don't yet know quite what to do with that. Anyone ever restored a Kirby bag?
