    My strange paper shredder collection

We just have a small one that fits on trash can. I used to enjoy removing the little pieces of paper that would get stuck around the cutting blades. Someday I’d like to have a big one like those with its own catch bin.

    NZ's GE Swivel Top

Very cool machine in that color! It’s interesting seeing what GE did in different countries. Here in the US they changed to Premier around 1972 and were discontinued in about 1981-82. I believe in South America the Swiveltop continued into the 1990s under Black and Decker.

    Vintage Hotpoint Oven

Probably 1990s era We had a GE from 1992 that looked similar to that, but had dial timers and a self clean oven. Looks like that replaced a 40” range by the hood width.

    Bissell lift off 3554B

I have the original version that came in red or green instead of the black. It’s similar to yours but has a switch to shut off the brushroll for hard floors and it doesn’t have that front filter. Mine was made in 1995, I think they came out in 1994.

    Bagged thrift store sightings

That Eureka Boss Smartvac is a good machine. Full size attachments, two wands and shuts off the brushroll for hard floors or when the handle is upright for tool use.

    Black and Decker Classic Iron

It seems like everyone had those almond Black and Deckers, both of my grandparents had them. you’re right, I believe it was in 1984, that the sale happened. There’s another Black and Decker I’ve seen that is almond with a maroon handle. This model would beep or more accurately “chirp” when it...

    Black and Decker Classic Iron

I’ve posted about these before but can’t find the thread. I have one of these brand new in the box that I bought at Walmart a few years ago with a gift card. I believe John has the same iron, it looks just like he 1950s-70s GE irons. I also have one I got recently in a thrift store, I’d guess...

House prices got away from me

I’m not quite sure what the solution to this is, it seems to me that raising interest rates has done nothing but lock people out of buying and create even more anguish to those already priced out. As you’ve all attested many who own homes can’t afford to buy a similar home at today’s prices...

    vintage blender

Sounds like an Osterizer Cycle Blend or similar. These types of push button Osters are very common in thrift stores and places like that. I have one from maybe the 90s with a plastic base. They are good blenders. They still make similar models today but not nearly as well made as those. You...

House prices got away from me

The housing market has sure gotten away from me these last 3 or so years and it’s really disappointing. I’ve been saving up for 11 years now, debt paid off, strong down payment saved, and still can’t afford a home. When I graduated from college prices were extremely low but I didn’t have enough...

Head rest in older cars (60s to 90s)

Thank you Barry for that info. I wasn’t around back in the 70s or 80s but it seemed from what I’ve seen the headrests were usually down. I saw a website yesterday with a collection of cars from the 70s and saw most had both of the headrests pulled up, so it piqued my curiosity. When I see cars...

Head rest in older cars (60s to 90s)

In the older automobiles, at least American ones in the late 60s when headrests were first mandated on sedans and coupes, through the early to mid 90s, or even early 00s on some, the headrests are just short bar shaped things. They look like they’d be too short to do any help in a crash, much...

Vintage Hoover Dimension 1000 Powermatic canister set - Local pickup in East Plano, TX

That machine appears to be from April 1988 from the serial number. A new replacement dusting brush in black would be readily available on eBay.

Vintage Hoover Dimension 1000 Powermatic canister set - Local pickup in East Plano, TX

I would grab that if I was there, that’s one of my machines I have an eye on for especially at that price, It would be cool to try the Electronic Powermatic power nozzle from my Celebrity QS on that matching gray Electronic Dimension 1000!

If you owned Hoover, what changes would you make?

I’d like to see Hoover start making canisters again, more bagged models and bring back commercial machines like the Convertible and Conquest designs. But I know ultimately there is a reason they’re no longer making any of them anymore.

A Western Auto Hoover & a Hoover Hoover

Yes, I’d say that’s about the last Portable, given the plastic hose end like Spirit, Dimension, Sprint, or etc and the later boxy floor/rug attachment.

    70s Kenmore Canister Find

That one looks interesting with the burlwood like trim and green wands! I’m thinking that may be a couple years before mine. I like that a Sears Best sticker, I want to recreate one for mine as it’s gone missing At some point.

    70s Kenmore Canister Find

Mike, thanks very much for your offer, but I found a storage tray on eBay complete with a full set of attachments. I was the only bid! So I got what I was after. Or will once it all arrives.
