A Hoover PortaPower joins the hoard

Looks like it should clean up ok. “Track down the rest of the bits and pieces” Isn’t that always seem to be a project for us that collect vacuums? I’m always on the look out for missing attachments.

    Fell off the wagon again.

There was a stick vac like that on the curb a few weeks ago, along with a Bissell PowerForce bagless upright. Kinda wish I’d gotten it, but the next time I drive by, someone had taken both. My reason for not grabbing it was I already have a later purple one. lol

I'm starting to understand why people are looking at alternative housing.

I thought about buying a small mobile home similar to that. They have around here what they call “park models”, usually 1 bed 1 bath, and they’re pretty nice inside. Some are 2 bedroom. As you say, they’re still quite expensive (over $100k) and then I’d still have to buy land, install...

I'm starting to understand why people are looking at alternative housing.

I saw a rare foreclosure pop up today that is actually a nice house. But I’d need to replace the roof just to get insurance and thus a mortgage, like so many on the used market. And then there the question of what will insurance cost? Will I be able to afford or even continue to get insurance...

    Hurricane

This is a major reason I’m afraid to buy a home. I don’t want to leave Florida because all my family are here, but it’s becoming increasingly expensive the last few years to insure a home. But if you have a mortgage, you have to have insurance. What if it gets so expensive you can’t afford it...

I'm starting to understand why people are looking at alternative housing.

I just want a house that I can afford the payment, taxes and insurance on. I want a small yard, a decent kitchen, and a garage. I have no interest in the RV or van life or living in a literal SHED. But despite saving by for 13 YEARS, because I didn’t buy before 2020, it’ll never happen...

Businesses in your area “in the middle of nowhere?”

I just thought of another business that’s “middle of nowhere”. Not technically so, as it’s in the middle of a neighborhood, but it’s pretty far out. But it’s this random Subway restaurant that’s out on a rural highway, the only other chain type business out there is a Dollar General (surprise...

    Bathroom Remodel Trials and Tribulations

Those smooth walls look like they would be easy to keep clean. I like to use a squeegee on the walls after shower to dry them. Does this bathroom have an exhaust fan?

    Canister vac curb finds?

I still see a lot of canisters in the thrift stores around here, although most of them are Kenmores that are less than 15 years old. The rest of them are usually either plastic or metal Electrolux, and the occasional Rainbow, Filter Queen, or Tristar. I don’t ever see vintage Hoover or Eureka or...

    Hurricane

I’m getting so nervous about this storm that’s expected to be a category 3 before it makes landfall. Especially seeing the devastation from Helene across 5 states just a week ago. It looks like this could not only severely impact the coast, but all of central Florida given it’s path, I don’t...

    Older wiring

With the wiring in the house approaching 50 years old, I sometimes wonder if it’s still safe. From what I’ve seen, my house wiring is probably fine, it’s all copper, and it seems like they used wire gauges for 20 amps on even the 15 amp circuits. The breaker box is original too, and it’s a...

    1990s Buicks (Regal,Skylark, Ultra,etc)

Sounds like the 84 Century was the same body style as my grandfather’s 96. Come to think of it another uncle owned a 92 Century in dark blue on blue interior. There’s often the Oldsmobile version of it parked at a house I pass sometimes and it’s a pretty green-blue like color and in nice...

    1990s Buicks (Regal,Skylark, Ultra,etc)

My grandfather used to have 1994 Buick Regal. It was a pretty IMO teal blue/green with tan interior. He seemed to really like that car. It was his 2nd car at the time but he seemed to like driving it more on long trips. He used to have a 1996 Buick Century, that one bought new. Somehow even as...

    Ebay is getting worse

Yeah most sellers in my experience just say to keep the item and they refund the money if it’s damaged. No sense spending on shipping to send it back and throw away. I a always message them and send pictures of the damage.

    Canister vac curb finds?

I see bagless uprights in trash occasionally but have rarely found canisters. I remember as a kid I saw an avocado green and yellow Sears Best canister on the way home from school once (just the hose with it) but my mom wouldn’t pick it up for me as she was embarrassed. lol Then at another...

    New trash find

D Agree good find. I got a 16 gal Craftsman and some attachments a couple of months ago off the curb down street the neighbor had passed away. Then found a Dirt Devil hand vac there a while after.

    Ebay is getting worse

I did have one seller that was non responsive, I had ordered a Princess telephone that ended up smashed in shipping. I tried messaging them first, but they wouldn’t respond until I went through eBay and had to actually return the item which was just stupid. There was absolutely no reason to...

    Another slow cooker find

Came across a bit of an oddball slow cooker. It’s a GE when Walmart sold them, and I can’t really call it a “crock pot” because it doesn’t actually have a ceramic pot. Instead it’s non stick metal, which results in the whole unit being very light. The lid also has locks but instead of the...

    Ebay is getting worse

I had two fans damaged in shipping, messaged the sellers, and they refunded the money immediately and said to keep it. Also got a Hoover Celebrity that got marked up on the decals in shipping, told them I didn’t think it was damaged enough to hassle with returning, seller sent partial refund...

    Dustbusters

When I was really little, I can remember my grandparents having an older tan and brown colored Dustbuster. The battery was just about shot in it, but it would run for a minute or two. I’d run around their house and try to vacuum with it. Later my aunt got me a Dustbuster Car Vac for Christmas...
