Another 70s Kenmore canister vac ?

That’s kind of why I was hesitant on getting it. I already have the top model from the 70s that also didn’t have a Powermate, but I had been looking for one for years, so bought it anyway. Someone on Facebook said they had a Powermate for that one but I never got around to asking. Yes, I really...

Another 70s Kenmore canister vac ?

I saw this vacuum at Habitat today. Looks to be maybe a lower line or mid line model. It doesn’t have the two speed switch, performance indicator, woodgrain top or tool caddy like the one I have. But I don’t think it’s quite bottom of line. Anyway I didn’t get it (yet) but I was debating on it...

    Ebay is getting worse

I’ve found eBay prices have just gotten too high on a lot of items that could even be speculated as collectible. Buy it now listings are convenient as one can get the item now, and avoid the hassle of bidding, and waiting for an auction to end before the item ships IF one wins. But, for a long...

    Little thrift store find

That’s a nice little machine! I like how the attachments store at the back and the fact that it has a cord reel. Not a lot of small American canisters seemed to have a retracting cord. The colors are nice, too.

    Supermarkets

From what I understand, all Winn Dixie stores will either be converting to the Aldi format, over the next few years, or if they don’t convert will be closing. Aldi says there will be a meaningful number of stores staying the same, but seems like most people don’t believe that. I don’t know...

    Domestic Vacuums in Commercial Settings

I went to Winn Dixie on Friday evening, and I noticed a Bissell PowerForce Compact bagless upright was being used to vacuum the rugs in produce and carpeting at the front of the store. The rest of the store has vinyl tiles with wood looking floors in produce and the liquor area, so I guess it’s...

I'm starting to understand why people are looking at alternative housing.

That is a very good point. I’ve looked a few times at listings in other states, especially Georgia. I was surprised that there were houses there at lower price points than here in Florida, and in general, it seemed like the houses were a better value for the money. I believe insurance is also...

I'm starting to understand why people are looking at alternative housing.

One of the big questions to ask is “Why do I want a house?” For me I don’t have a definitive answer. I have always had it as a goal since I graduate from college, but I knew it wasn’t one that I’d meet quickly. I did have this idea that it would be nice to have my own place abd my friends...

    Won the 90s vacuum lottery!!!

I have one of the first ones that is from 1994 and maroon in color. That one has a different switch that lets you turn on either just the canister motor or both canister and brushroll, and it also shuts off the brushroll when the handle is upright. The later ones only shut off the brush when the...

My Return After A Long Hiatus & Why Bagged Straight-Suction Canisters Are Awesome

I have a Hoover Commercial Portapower I got a few years ago, but I haven’t used it. Kenmore vacuum cleaners are most definitely still around! Target, Amazon, Home Depot, Lowes all selling them online.

    Supermarkets

We had a few Earth Fare stores in parts of Florida a few years ago. They didn’t last but a couple of years. Pretty sure most of them ended up going to Bravo Markets and Winn Dixie. On further research, it appears Earth Fare is still around in a few places.

    Supermarkets

We had A&P here in Florida. Before my time, but my grandfather worked in one for years in the meat department. We also had Grand Union stores which again were before my time. I do recall seeing Thriftway stores, a chain of very small, old grocery stores, they went out of business sometime in...

    Supermarkets

I do wish we could have another traditional grocery store in Florida, but it seems like nobody has ever been an able to really compete with Publix. I have been to a Whole Foods store once in Sarasota that was quite nice, but they aren’t in many places plus they’re expensive. There are Trader...

    Supermarkets

What supermarkets are in your area, and which do you go to? In my town, we have two Publix stores, Aldi, Walmart, 2 Winn Dixie stores, and Save A Lot. I’d say I mostly shop at Walmart, as it tends to be cheaper. I usually get milk and frozen goods there and sometimes produce. I used to go to...

My Mom Vs. A Dodge Charger/Chrysler 300 and Chevrolet Impala

Sorry to hear that. I get stressed at work certainly, but I enjoy it at times. When I first started, I was so afraid of the management that I didn’t know if it would work out. I wanted to go back to my old job, but it didn’t pay what I wanted and I didn’t feel it offered room to grow, so...

My Mom Vs. A Dodge Charger/Chrysler 300 and Chevrolet Impala

I would be better if I could get my mental health under control. I’m having a lot of family issues the last few years and it’s affecting my mental health, which affects my eating, and hoarding, which is a vicious cycle. The holidays are a hard time for me anymore, and I’d rather not celebrate...

My Mom Vs. A Dodge Charger/Chrysler 300 and Chevrolet Impala

Nice Impala, I do like the looks of that era of GM. I assumed that one had the bar style headrests? I remember my uncle buying an FWD Impala around 2000 or so. I just always preferred the 2006-16 model for some reason. He traded that one later for a Charger when they first came out a few years...

I'm starting to understand why people are looking at alternative housing.

Property taxes are definitely a frustration. Where I am the insurance is getting ridiculously expensive, and I think a big part of it is just the inflation of material and labor, as well as the extremely high costs of houses in general. I keep running the numbers trying to see what kind of...

My Mom Vs. A Dodge Charger/Chrysler 300 and Chevrolet Impala

I remember my grandfather had a late 80s Mercury Grand Marquis and as well as an early 90s Caprice both new back in the day. Well, I have memories of the Caprice but I saw pictures of the Grand Marquis. I’ve been quite partial to the 2006-16 Chevy Impala. We had them summer of 2006 for driver’s...

A Hoover PortaPower joins the hoard

I forgot to add, nice Amana washer. That console reminds me a lot of the newer Speed Queens, which I believe are based on those of course.
