New metal screen for my 95x! Off with the plastic screen and on with the metal one today: great success! With a new (authentic) cone filter and motor guard filter as well, the suction is now unbelievable!

Well, I found the model and serial number under the cap at the top: Model 95x; serial number 0592. There's the same six-number series there as appears on the outer part of the machine: 777887. Can I assume that my Filter Queen dates from May 1992?

Jadeangel, thanks for that dating information. The model number I found appeared on the power head, along with the serial number: 200-011. The only other number series I could locate was stamped into the chrome band at the base of the motor portion (right above where it fits onto the drum)...

Apex 600 Update: the Royal upright belt works perfectly in the Apex 600! That brush is spinning like mad!

Ah! Just what I was hoping to hear! My FQ has been languishing while I've been trying out other vacuums, but now I realize what a gem it really is. My goal is to fit it up right with parts that won't break and use it as my "daily driver."

This may sound silly, but I just am not a fan of plastic parts.

I have a nice older Filter Queen Majestic, model AN96, that has the plastic cone guard. Would it be possible, or even advisable, to replace that with a metal one from an earlier machine? Also, any ideas as to the date of this model? Thanks very much!

My "dream machine" would be a Royal 801 from the early fifties, in good enough condition to use every day if I wanted to. Love that diagonal black & red design on the bag and belt cover! Who knows -- I might even start to enjoy vacuuming! If anyone has one that you'd be willing to part with...
