Close-up of the dryer. Here's the hair-dryer at close range. There's an attachment for the extension pipes, so the electrical lead must supply the heater only. I wonder if this overheats when the cleaners exhaust is not connected? I wont dare ask if any of yous has used one to dry your hair...

Here's a Tellus! Hans, here's the Tellus I was talking about down in the cellar. It needs some TLC, to say the least, including replacement of the leads before I attempt to run it. The hairdryer attachment looks especially lethal! The hose has been codged up to work/keep dust in. When I saw...

I must look for one of those boys! I must look for one of those Lawnboys; it's just that I collect so many different ones that I keep running out of space and money! I know that one of the things that go on them sometimes are the crankcase seals...but they shouldn't be too much trouble to...

I want a Lawnboy! I've got so many mowers but I'd like to pick up a Lawnboy sometime Hans. They're not so common over here, though they do exist. The other one to look out for with 2 stroke engines are Victas; I've had a few of them! I've been interested in mowers about as long as...

    Hoover 913

The 912 was one of my first re-builds I remember back in about 1986, whilst I was still at school, going to work part-time on a farm. I would turn up and do a couple of hours or so of work, cut the grass etc for the parents of a colleague, who was in my class. Then one day I noticed the 912...

Thanks for the info/messages! Brian, thanks for the information! I thought that the Parnall was very similar. It's one of those ones that I keep saying I'll get one day. Hans' I'll try to take some pictures as soon as I can. One Tellus machine languishes in the cellar in a cardbox box at...

    Hoover 913

Looks good! It's very similar to the model 912, which we had over in the UK. The back wheel bracket looks OK. It's designed so that the whole axle can rotate freely to adjust the height of back wheels and thus the height of the nozzle above the carpet. This is achieved using a sort of...

Tell us about it!..get it? I have three Tellus machines but they all need restoring. In particular, the hose on one of them is somewhat beyond redemption; perhaps I'll eventually find something to replace it with. One of mine has a little heater attachment. Also I've noticed that the method of...

Nice looking machine! Very nice looker Hans!..and it sounds like the performance was also very good for its day. We didn't have those in the UK, though we had one called a Parnall, which was similar in some ways - not sure how similar? There were and still are a wide variety of machines...

Hmmmm... I'll bet if the seller had taken better pictures,

Love that one! I agree with you Charles that this Special is one of the most attractive ones. I have a few imported Specials (different models), one of which has a brown wrinkled finish. It would have been nice to get this 700 Special but unfortunately I can't keep my eye on Ebay all the time...

    Hoover 425

Hoover Specials Dan, apart from some very early pre-1920 Hoovers, Special was the name normally used to denote machines rebuilt in the U.S Hoover factory at North Canton; thus there were 700 Specials, 541 Specials, 105 Specials etc. I expect that your 425 Special will be a 1932 machine...

Did anyone here get the hoover Lark On eBay?

Well, Graeme from Hooverland noticed the auction...and that was why I saw it. Perhaps if I'd emailed the seller I could have talked them into sending it for less...using a more suitable courier? Stephen

Did anyone here get the hoover Lark On eBay?

I saw it but... they wanted $685.99 for worldwide postage! I usually have to pay some sort of customs charge & VAT too..so it's too much!!

? Bag Presumably, this is the one you mean, Walter? I've just temportarily fitted it to one of my 725s for this photoshoot. Eventually I'll probably put in on another machine with the original orange triangular badge. I know that the steel band on this has lost some of its orange paint but...

Orange ? bag Walter - I won one of those on Ebay recently; it's a US version, which must be similar to the British one, except for having Reg. U.S. Pat Office written on the bag. It's not quite a ?, since the ? is reversed, there's no dot in it plus the curved part overlaps slightly. I believe...

Painting Hoover Bags Jonathan I know what you mean about the different numbers of blocks of vertical white stripes on some of the early Hoover bags. It's worth considering this idea...but what would be the best paint to use?...possibly the lines could be painted using Humbrol enammel, if it's...

    Hoover 425

Original 475 bag I only have one of these at present, fitted to one of my British 541s...but the black has faded to grey; I've been wondering whether this will dye black without affecting the orange writing..in which case I may fit it onto one of my 475s. Stephen
