Comparison to buy Kirby G5 and Ultimate G

So after not hearing from the lady with the diamond edition, I went ahead and bought the G5. It need a little cleaning. Overall, it’s in great shape. Has all the attachments including the turbo brush. I met the seller in the Kroger parking lot. I sensed either they had money, or they had no...

Comparison to buy Kirby G5 and Ultimate G

I have an antique wool areas rug in my living room. I was thinking the low speed setting would be nice for that. I remember a seeing newer model Kirby in a booth at a peddler’s mall for a long time. I haven’t been in there in a few months. I know it had the attachment caddy. I want to say the...

Comparison to buy Kirby G5 and Ultimate G

I asked the lady if it was still for sale at 3pm on Friday. After waiting what seemed like an eternity, she finally replied at 10 Saturday stating it was. Immediately wrote back and asked if I could pick up that day. She replied that she was taking care of a sick relative until 3pm, and said...

Sent the seller a message for the Diamond. Hoping it still for sale.

Comparison to buy Kirby G5 and Ultimate G

There’s also a 2nd Ultimate G for $50. But it doesn’t have the shampooer. For the same price, I’d rather have the shampooer. What can someone tell me about these? Would I know if a bearing or brushing was bad? I figured I’d order a new belt and possibly brush roll. Probably wouldn’t hurt to take...

Comparison to buy Kirby G5 and Ultimate G

I suddenly have an urge to buy a Kirby. After browsing Facebook marketplace, I’ve narrowed it down to these two. A G5 and an Ultimate G. The G5 is $45 and comes with everything. Bags, shampoo system, all attachments. The Ultimate G is $50 but comes with the attachments and shampooer system...

    Hoover 28 broken hood

Epoxy I’m going to try epoxy. It’s worth a shot. If it doesn’t work, I’ll hit you up about that hood.

    Hoover 28 broken hood

So a freak accident happened today with my Hoover 28. I was getting out Christmas gifts I had stored in my walk in closet to wrap. A crystal desk clock was sitting on top of a small box on the top shelf. I picked the clock up and sat it and the box it was on top of on the middle shelf. I then...

    Hoover model 28

You’ve done a fabulous job restoring them! I’d love for mine to look brand new like yours. May I ask what you would charge?

    Hoover model 28

I guess it’s an “ozone” smell. It’s a very distinct smell. I have a 40s radio that gave off that smell until I had it restored. This afternoon, I removed the brushroll, and with an sos pad was able to get the rust off the beater bars. After getting out all the gunk that was inside the brushroll...

    Hoover model 28

Update I’ve taken it apart and started cleaning it. The scuff marks on the hood came right off with a magic eraser. Would it be recommended that I take it to a vacuum shop and have the wiring replaced? I noticed last night it does have a strong electrical smell.

    Hoover model 28

So I was able to get the seller down to $30. Before I put it in my car, I unscrewed the bag and dumped it in the parking lot. To say it was full would be an understatement. When I got home, I tried it out on my living room rug. I only ran it less than a minute. But it seemed to do alright. I...

    Hoover model 28

Do these have an inner disposable bag? Or is it just the outer cloth bag? With the dust cloud, I assume the outer bag has moth holes. Are replacement outer bags readily available? Belts? Brushroll? The headlight didn’t work. I’ve read the lenses were notorious for breaking. Is there a way to...

    Hoover model 28

Browsing a peddlers mall, when I walked past a booth with this model 28. Is it worth $50. It turns on (I was surprised how quiet it is). The cloud of dust it made, looked like Pigpen from Snoopy. Would I be better off finding one in nicer condition?

    Paste Wax Application to Linoleum

Speaking of paste wax, I have a question. My best friend (and neighbor who lives across the hall in my building), recently purchased on Facebook a 50s/60s GE floor polisher. We both have the original hardwood floors from when the building was built in 1920. Thus they are very dry and in dire...

    Advice on purchasing a Royal

Thank you to Les, I was able to purchase a beautiful 880 from him. I cannot wait for it to arrive! Listed my Eureka on Facebook. I have one final question. On a separate thread, a 880 manual was posted. The manual says to use sae 30 non detergent oil. I found 3 in 1 sae 20 motor oil, but not a 3...

    Advice on purchasing a Royal

So the guy with the one on Facebook 45 minutes away never replied to my asking if he still had it. I assume it sold and he never deleted the listing. Tomorrow, I might call around to local vac shops and ask if they have any older Royals. I did just see these two listed on Offer Up. They almost...

    Advice on purchasing a Royal

Do you think it’s old enough to be a lower amp? I’m sure my neighbors would prefer a quieter model. Would it clean better than my Eureka? I feel bad replacing it, I did just buy a new brush roll and bearings.

    Advice on purchasing a Royal

I was right, there would be others. Found this on Facebook today. The description states “vintage vacuum, works very well, $25 obo”. Should I ask for a pic of the model/serial plate and brush roll? It’s 45min away. Trying to decide if it’s worth the drive.
