    Value of Kirby Model 560?

As mentioned in another thread, I have received a Kirby Model 560. It is not new in the box, but it has all of the original boxes, etc. Looks to have had little or no use. Silver/white paint still mostly intact on original single-row beater bar. It has the original bag in pretty decent...

    Need help identifying vintage Kirby

OK, I got to take a look at the vacuum tonight. It is a Model 560, 1960 mfg. I am going to take some photos soon for Ebay. It appears to have most attachments brand new. Have not plugged it in and attempted to run it yet.

    Need help identifying vintage Kirby

I will try to get some pictures and info off of it tonight. Last night it was late, dark, and I didn't feel like getting it out of the car. It looks, from a rough guess, like the 5th from left in your first picture, with the red handle. Box, etc., appear to be 1950s vintage if I had to...

    Need help identifying vintage Kirby

Hello, I was recently given a vintage Kirby by my mother-in-law. As far as she can remember, it was never used - it was bought by her mother and she found it cleaning out her mom's house. What kinds of info/pictures do you guys need to help identify it? It's new in the box and may have...

I need a new vacuum cleaner

I would certainly consider other Kirbys, what is the difference? We've only ever owned the Heritage II.

I need a new vacuum cleaner

Ugh, made in China. Perhaps I would be better off with a Kenmore at that rate. Any suggestions of your personal favorites? Or should I roll the dice with an Ebay Heritage II?

I need a new vacuum cleaner

Well, the Heritage II has finally taken a complete dump, and I'm not going to sink any more money into it. I am thinking of getting one of the Royal vacuums I saw at the vac store the other day. Very simple, similar to the Kirby, and supposedly durable. I'm not keen on spending $400, but I do...

Problems with Speed Control on Kirby Heritage II?

Do you have a way I can email you? I'd like to do the tests and see if I can salvage any of this -- I don't want to spend another @ 170 on field and armature if I can save one.

Problems with Speed Control on Kirby Heritage II?

Something is definitely amiss. I checked the speed switch wiring, I must have reversed two of the wires. OK, no big deal, I switched them. I think it was yellow and white, or red and white. I swapped in a set of new brushes. Same problem. Brush material went flying everywhere, arcing...

Problems with Speed Control on Kirby Heritage II?

Thanks for the tips. I did not use a seating stone. It looked as though the brushes were melting when it was running last! I do have a spare set of brushes. The armature where the brushes seat also appears to have some heat damage which was what led me to believe something was shorted.

Problems with Speed Control on Kirby Heritage II?

I recently completely rebuilt my 1986-87 vintage Heritage II. This included: New field, new armature, new bearings, brushes, switch, impeller, speed switch, etc. Basically everything new except the housing itself. However, when I turned it on, I noticed low suction. The speed control was...

    Buffing -- Tips?

As mentioned in a previous thread I am rebuilding my Heritage II Kirby from @ 1980s. The cast aluminum shell is not in bad shape but could benefit from some buffing. It's quite apparent in areas where the shell is normally covered by a switch or something and has not been exposed to the...

    Kirby Heritage II Rebuild Tips?

I will take a few when I get back down there with everything. Thanks!

    Kirby Heritage II Rebuild Tips?

Also, I ordered a new front motor housing with bearing. The old one got messed up trying to put the new bearing in the front. Although these are supposed to not be press-fit in, the new bearing certainly needed pressing, and I pinched the retaining clip railing enough to crack a piece of...

    Kirby Heritage II Rebuild Tips?

I am working on my parents' old Heritage II, bought new in 1987. I have inherited it since they inherited a newer Kirby from my grandfather when he passed six years ago. Front bearing went out, and I have it completely disassembled on the bench. Years ago, I replaced the motor brushes and...
