There’s a “Thunder” Storm in my Collection!

I used to have one of those little handle things, not sure where it went. I always took it off my Thunder while using it, the extra handle thing felt flimsy.

Aerus deals won't quote price over phone?

Pretty typical of vacuum cleaners sold through "direct sales" methods. Rainbow and Kirby are the same way.

    Newer Filter Queen question

I know they started selling this model in 2011, not sure exactly when they stopped. Gosh, I wish I had the courage to go to my Goodwill outlet store more often... I've found some great machines there but I hate dealing with the people and mess.

    Importing a Dyson from Britain?

For the voltage you could get/make an adapter for your dryer or stove outlet, or you could use one of http://www.quick220.com/-P-100.html The device at the link has two cables which get plugged into outlets on two separate circuits. I haven't personally used one but I know some people who have...

    Bag/bagless observations

FQs do lose some airflow but it's not as dramatic of a loss as other machines that use a filter directly in the bin. With genuine cones I have yet to notice a dramatic airflow reduction during regular cleaning, that was a large part of their original marketing scheme as well.

    Bag/bagless observations

I generally prefer bagged machines just for their ease of use and maintenance, but I do enjoy using bagless vacs once in a while just for the instant gratification of seeing what I've picked up. My Filter Queen is a great machine and it's bagless, but I end up using it more often than other...

Searching For a New Vacuum for my Mother

I also see the value in a bagless machine, but bagged seems to be the way to go for people who don't care much about maintaining their vacuum. For people in my life who abuse their vacs, I'll give them a bagged machine and always make sure they have a supply of bags. That's what I do for my...

    What happened to cheap?

I got my relatively recently made (since the name change) Aerus upright from a Goodwill for $4.99. Just a few counties north of me I saw an old, filthy bottom of the line Miele with a bunch of attachments missing for $80. It seems to depend on the store and on whoever is working when the items...

Searching For a New Vacuum for my Mother

If you're looking for something better than a Shark then it'll almost certainly have to be bagged. Bagless vacuums are mostly cheaply made machines that require a lot more maintenance than bagged vacuums because of the filters that need to be cleaned. I second the earlier response about the...

    My first Aerus!

One of these days I'm going to drive down to the Bristol plant to see if it's actually open. I've heard so many rumors about whether it's open or not. I live in Virginia, it's a shame that it's five hours away from me in the complete opposite corner of the state. A strong southern twang would...

Are there still retail stores that let you try out vacuums?

The Bed Bath and Beyond near me always has the vacuums full of dirt, so clearly my store lets people try them out. Even their Miele machines have dirty bags in them.

    Westinghouse Wired Deluxe Question

I once had a Westinghouse Unplugged. The premotor filter was similar and it was washable. Be sure you're able to let it dry in the sun immediately after washing so it doesn't end up taking too long to dry, it'll grow mold if it can't dry properly.

Question after Lots of Particle Tests

I'd believe that bagged vacuums are inherently better at filtration, especially a clean air machine with a cloth HEPA bag. There may be air leaks after the bag/before the post motor filter but with a high quality bag it doesn't matter much.

    Reliability of Fantom vacuums?

I will say, my Thunder is in surprisingly good condition compared to most of the others I have come across. No plastic pieces broken or anything, all I had to replace was the motor since it had been sitting outside in the rain for a week before I acquired it. Thunders hold up well. I also used...

    Reliability of Fantom vacuums?

They're made entirely of plastic, plastic just isn't going to fare very well over the course of two decades. I believe the motors are of pretty good quality generally, my Thunder has a very large and powerful motor. But, the plastic parts will break over time.

    Vacuum bag fragrance

I agree with you on not using car air fresheners. I used to use these Scent Stick things, they smell really good but honestly I've realized there's no real need for adding fragrances to my cars. I often drive with the windows open but when I do use air conditioning I roll the windows down for...

Anyone know anything about this Electrolux?

I had one of these for a while! Very heavy and not a particularly good performer but it was neat. It took me a minute to realize the handle release was a button next to the power switch

    Dumping vacuums at my Goodwill?!

There's a Goodwill Outlet near me and I've found it's the best place to find good deals on vacuums. I've gotten a couple of Rainbows and a Kirby Sentria from them, I've also seen many Electrolux canisters. I hate going there though because there are lots of unsavory people who shop there, as one...

    do you vacuum more now?

I vacuum a few times a week, sometimes every day depending on how busy I am/how dirty the carpets are. The first thing I walked to as an infant was the vacuum cleaner so I have always vacuumed pretty often lol. I keep around 5 or so vacuums at my house and I rotate through them, but my...

    Recommend Upright Carpet Steam Cleaner

I normally just use my Floor Pro because it's what I have and it's relatively convenient. I've used the Bissell Big Green before though and it's definitely a great machine, if I were to buy a new carpet cleaner then that would be the one I'd pick.
