    Rattly Convertible handle

Does anyone have any solutions to a rattly handle on a Convertible, specifically the square handle on a Decade 80? I've tried replacing the lower and upper handle bolts and have tightened them as much as possible but I still get an annoying rattle from the handle's midsection whenever I pull the...

    New Sanitaire motor

Hmm, guess I'll let it run in a bit more and see if it goes away.

    New Sanitaire motor

Is it just me or do the new all plastic Sanitaire motors smell 'funny' for lack of a better term after running for a bit?

Second "Hoover" Comes from Donor to the Home for Wayward Vacuum Cleaners

You could try going to Sherwin-Williams and have them colour match it. Auto parts stores usually have a wider selection of colours than hardware stores, you might have better luck finding a similar colour there.

    Upside down Eureka ESP motor

I recently acquired a Eureka 2118 with the upside down ESP motor. While I had it apart for cleaning I noticed that 2 of the insulators between the bars on the armature had come loose and were poking up towards the cooling fan. What is a suitable adhesive to glue them back in place? I know these...

Need your input on a new vac purchase!

I'd suggest either a Sanitaire S634 or a Eureka Boss 1934 both of which are lightweight and hearty machines. I'd go with the Boss unless you want the longer cord, chrome handle and extra height adjustments that the Sanitaire has. The only bad thing about these is that you really have to upgrade...

    Hoover Convertible Help

You're probably going to have to replace the armature unfortunately. I once did a similar thing by making the mistake of using pliers to hold the shaft so I could unscrew the cooling fan. The motor still ran but sounded horrible.

    Eureka brandywine paint

Has anyone ever come across a spray paint colour which is a good match for the brandywine colour on a Eureka? I refurbed a 2087 ESP and it really could use a fresh coat of paint on the hood for that final touch. Or does anyone know if it's possible to have a can of spray paint custom mixed?

Hoover vs Hoover - You Help Decide

The Guardsman is for all intents and purposes a Convertible with a longer cord and a few other touches for the commercial market. If you've ever used a plastic based Convertible and were happy with it you'll like the Guardsman as it feels and sounds the same. It comes with a basic 2-brush...

    Greasing Hoover Bearings

If they are the original bearings you'll probably get better results just replacing them with new bearings that have been freshly oiled and greased. This is how I service the bearings on my Convertibles though. The top bearing is the easiest to maintain, all you need is some 3-in-1 oil (the...

Convert A 'C' Bag Hoover To Top Fill?

The bellows is simply the part which connects the bag ring to the fill tube. Hope that helps.

Convert A 'C' Bag Hoover To Top Fill?

The stock bag on a 704 is too small to hold a Eureka F&G without pinching the fill tube on it. It's possible to use an F&G bag on a newer Convertible which has the wider outer bag. Converting an older Convertible to use Hoover Type-A bags is relatively easy though. You'll need to get a new outer...

    Hoover armature

Yes. Hesco still sells the current armature for a Convertible motor. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't the high performance armature have more bars on the commutator which would mean that the stock motor would run at a higher RPM with the newer part in it?

    Hoover armature

Would anyone be interesting in selling or parting with an armature for a standard performance Convertible? I need one so that I can finish getting my 719 up to snuff. Thank you.

How do i service a hoover convertibles top bearing

Grease will destroy a sleeve bearing. If you greased it, you will need to replace it. I forgot to put this in my original reply but when you have the bearing unscrewed give it a wiggle to see if it has any play in it. It's been my experience that if it has even a tiny amount of play then the...

    Hoover Convertible armature

Aside from needing to get the spacer/split sleeve kit is it acceptable to use the current Convertible armature on a 719, or is the one for the standard performance motor a different part number?

How do i service a hoover convertibles top bearing

Buy some 3-in-one oil, the kind that specifically says for 1/4 hp motors or larger. Remove the bearing, after you have done so wipe the shaft with a clean lint-free cloth. Next, wipe the lower side of the bearing off with a paper towel. For the next step you'll need some Q-tips. Basically, what...
