    Irons...

I will revisit my Presto Based upon KenKart's recommendation I will unearth my old Presto and give it a spin again. I suppose it is time. The poor thing has been on a shelf for way too long...

    Irons...

Faultless Hot Iron Cleaner I use Faultless Hot Iron Cleaner religiously to clean crud off of soleplates. It works great. Keep a window open as it does smoke up a bit. Get a bunch of old rags to wipe the soleplate clean. I have run into soleplates that don't clean-up. In one case I went...

    Irons...

Sorta I iron much of my clothing, but modern irons seem to have a quick mortality (China). After buying new irons, treating them well and then having them fail for the wrong reasons, I gave up. At estate sales I kept finding new-in-box irons from the 1970s and before. I've picked up a few...

    Scary Vacuum Cleaners

Oh yes, the Westinghouse upright Our Westinghouse upright was just simply scary looking. Although my parents were married in the late 1950s, the vacuum cleaner was bought used. I suspect it was from the late 1940's. It certainly worked well but it had a big, brown bag that inflated to a big...

    Magnavox stereo repair

I have the same unit And it had a similar problem. Before ripping it apart, check for an internal/external speaker switch on the rear of the unit. Flip it back and forth a few times. Mine oxidized and one channel would go weak.

    Interest in restaurant equipment?

Fan here I too am a fan of restaurant equipment. Fred is correct though - this is a great thread for the Automatic Washer site. I find restaurant equipment fun for several reasons. First, my father worked for Hotpoint. I do have some brochures for their 1950's era restaurant equipment...

    Origins of Kenmore Name

Chicago has KENMORE AVENUE There is a Kenmore Avenue found throughout Chicago. I don't know if it pertains to SEARS brands though. If indeed they did pick a street name, they made a good choice. Chicago streets that would NOT make good appliance brands include: GOETHE (everyone...

Recommendation for a high filtration bagged vacuum?

Nilfisk ULPA I have a Nilfisk ULPA with power nozzle. We have pets and allergies. You can tell the difference in air quality after vacuuming. And guests with pet allergies report no problems at our house unlike others.

    A quiet shop Vac ?

My Oreck commercial vac is quiet.. I too got very tired of ear-splitting, short lived shop-type vacuum cleaners. The Oreck Commercial is quality in every way, but it did set me back about $600.00. However, I did have a muffler put on a previous (non-Oreck but popular brand) vacuum. I joked...

    Bakelite hand held vacuum cleaner

Probably very rare Bakelite is brittle so I suspect not many of these units survive. Great find but don't drop it!

    Contest idea / Hand vac

Howdy, Yesterday I picked up a hand vac (GE AVH45). Now with my four hand vacs, the thought crossed my mind as to whether there was a performance contest for hand-vac cleanability at the meets. If it's already been done.. spill the beans... I've only been to two meets thus far. I'm still a...

Nice Motorola Great set. Cosmetics are very nice. A glass top too? I so understand how life takes one away from projects. However, it'll still be there when you are ready to get back to it ! .... I totally agree, those selenium rectifiers must go....

To have one's own transmitter How cool it would have been to have that transmitter! If a wealthy relative left you money... then maybe it was doable. Yeesh, think of the power and phase issues you would have to arrange. Yikes. I wonder nowadays about the viability of small radio or TV...

    Your listening space

Ah laserdisc players I was trained at RCA to fix CED videodisc players as well as fixing Pioneer and Kenwood Laserdiscs. What a goofy format CED was. However it was truly amazing to see the "stylus" (NOT needle) hit the record and a color pix come out. That format - as flawed as it was - was...

GE phono with matching cart? Very cool. I see lotsa records. That is great. Thank you for reminding me to dig out my 45 RPM records. Sadly most of my 45s are not great but it will be fun to play those that have sentimental value. I think I have a parakeet training record on a 45. I'll...

    Disgusted with Chinese manufactured products

I have seen a Kirby with a damaged fan housing However there is a story... Years ago I worked with a man who, sadly, had a war injury and a metal plate in his head. His behavior was erratic to say the least. He was the janitor and would damage many things. I found an old 1950's era Kirby in...
