    Convention 2014.............Did it really happen?

Why Charlie Must you insist on raining on other people's parades? Your comment is sufficiently crude for me to make this leap and comment. If you don't enjoy collecting vacuum cleaners, go elsewhere, but leave us to enjoy our craft.

    Convention 2014.............Did it really happen?

Truly a terrific time Lots of vacs and three great tours too! Got some good tech talk, a terrific awards and dinner banquet... and best of all - lots of fun for all. I was so impressed with CWP, Kirby and Filter-Queen. All were very engaged with the group and clearly worked hard to ensure...

    Kenmore canister memories

Two Kenmore memories The first Kenmore in my life is one I picked up in the garbage. Grade school... It was a vertical tank-type with a top flip lid that opened with a thumb latch. It worked great and I enjoyed using it. The neighbor came over one day and saw me with it. She was glad I found...

    My first stereo

Fisher was fabulous Fisher was wonderful during those tube years. And wasn't too bad in the immediate years following. And as far as Newcomb and Califone, I truly liked their stuff. Durable, sounded good. ... I truly liked POWERPOINT cartridges which were often found on scholastic phonos...

    My first stereo

That Zenith was a great purchase I certainly remember those Zeniths. They were made well, easy to service - but not much ever went wrong with them. And they were handsome. I thought they were a great value.

    My first stereo

I remember those cassette recorders. Your description is good however the brand name escapes me too. However, if they weren't commercial-grade, I recall brands such as MAYFAIR and MILOVAC being popular at one time. ROSS was another vendor using a single-knob control.

    My first stereo

Yes I did buy something from my childhood... I stumbled upon the game "Shenanigans" and had to buy it. The game was complete and so (gasp), the price didn't matter. My sister and I had absolute loads of fun with that game as kids. I gave her the vintage game as a gift a few years ago. The...

Any Recommendations for a Gas Dryer?

Of course you may call me Paul I am actually sitting next to my training binder for dryer fires. I knew I had that dryer identification data somewhere. Yup, all brands catch on fire from time to time. I am glad you liked the identification trick. Dustin is also correct that lint filters...

Any Recommendations for a Gas Dryer?

A tip to consider. I cannot advise the best dryer. I do own Speed Queens and am very happy with them. However I can advise a tip. You state that you do NOT want to buy another GE again. How to avoid buying a GE? Some would say, "Don't buy a GE." It ain't that simple. GE makes GE. Other...

    Quiet Wet Dry Vacs

Oreck commercial My Oreck commercial vac is rather quiet. Bought it new about two years ago. Got sick of screaming motors. The Oreck commercial did set me back around $600 if I remember correctly. It is terrific and is pure quality throughout.

What favorite vacuum cleaner(s) came out the year you were born?

I'm also 1962 I didn't know what vac was launched in 1962. Thanks for the info. Maybe the Hospital Model G is why I like turquoise so much. That probably was the first vacuum-cleaner my little eyes ever saw!

    Arlee finds a coffee pot

Two GE percolators here I am a coffee drinker. My two coffeemakers are a 1960 GE-Universal percolator and the 1970's GE Mini-Basket / Peek-A-Brew unit similar to yours shown. I bought the 1960 GE easily ten or twelve years ago. Mint/unused at the Salvation Army. It has been used virtually...

    Vacuum test meter

My experience 1. I used to work for a company that made vacuum-cleaners. We used a meter like that for canisters. 2. It was considered accurate. 3. That is a good question. I don't know the answer as my experience was limited to one brand. 4. Although I did not work for Oreck or Douglas, I...

    Convention Registration

How to confirm one's registration? My notes show I sent the form and payment on 4/3/14. However, there appears to be no feedback mechanism to confirm the registration went through properly. Is there a method or preferred e-mail to confirm registration? Thanks for any additional information.

Whats your quietest and loudest vacuum?

Quietest and loudest Quietest is my Nilfisk. Loudest WAS my Eureka "shop-type" vac that I bought about 15 years ago. It was so loud I told the vac shop I would only buy it if they put a MUFFLER on it. And they did! For 20 bucks they put a muffler on the exhaust. Overall I couldn't stand the...

2 More HOOVER factories are closing

That sucking noise Was TTI pulling USA manufacturing to China. C'mon, did you REALLY expect any different from any Chinese manufacturer ? Oreck is next, just you wait and see. When "China" says, "We will keep manufacturing in USA", their next message will be, "Oh... that answer was only...

    Swamp Coolers

Palm-Aire obsolete references and imagery Notice the "Hotter than a Hottentot" reference on the Palm-Aire instruction book. When I looked up Hottentot I found out that the reference is considered offensive nowadays. It is a good thing that such cavalier references are largely obsolete...

    Swamp Coolers

Similar stories That water tower I dealt with is described by y'all very well. I so believe the air-conditioner for the building was a Carrier unit as well. The building was a fused series of building about 100 years old but the place was remodeled to state-of-the-art in about 1953. This all...

    Swamp Coolers

Question: Would the term "swamp cooler" apply to a commercial device on top of a buildling that pumped water down wooden slats? With air rushing past those slats, the air was cooled... somewhat.. If so, I worked at a bank years and years ago that had such a cooling system. They also had a...

Electricity Prices- what do you pay?

Chicago I paid $161.00 USD last month. Bear in mind this is a newer, approx 4000 square foot home that is all electric except for the two furnaces and water heater. And this last winter was brutal. Two washing machines, five burner electric range, double ovens, two refrigerators and a freezer...
