    Services Scheduled for Glenn Dienst

We were fortunate to have known him. He will be missed by many. How fortunate he was to have his various hobbies AND find his various tribes with which he could share the things he loved AND have a few laughs along the way. In our great "train ride" through life it is not the final station...

    09/11/2001

Memorable day At that time I was working for a large TV / Appliance manufacturer. I walked in the door and on the first TV I saw live video of a tall, square building on fire. I thought it was just some high-rise fire in Chicago. Not good but no tragedy. However, on the upper floor was the...

    PHYLLIS DILLER

Mom used to sell jokes to her Phyllis had housewives send her jokes (aka "GAGs) that she would buy. My Mom was among them. Still have the documents, cancelled checks etc. Mom had a great sense of humor. Paid off!

Philco Predicta Tandem-Put the set beside your chair

Sony Profeel = warm cats My Sony Profeel was the purrfect kitty perch. If any of you remember those monitors, they had a large bell on the back of the cabinet that would support a sleeping kitty ever so nicely.

Philco Predicta Tandem-Put the set beside your chair

Predicta Tandem Note that the commercial makes little mention of the thick umbilical cable with a high-voltage line running through it. Old-timers told me that the Tandem was popular in bars. The picture tube goes up the wall and the controls were below the bar. Makes sense.

Philco Predicta Tandem-Put the set beside your chair

Like Lewyt... The Predicta put Philco into bankruptcy. Truly this was one of Philco's most fabulous designs - still admired to this day. However the newly-designed picture tube was failure prone and their reputation was ruined. Ford bought the company... and Philco-Ford was born. I own...

    North Texas Mini-Meet 11/8/2014

What a nice time! Sean once again proved to be a terrific host and made for a memorable time for us all. It does all start with the people, as all were there just to enjoy each other's company and just have some fun. I do enjoy the fact that the conversations start with vacuum-cleaners but do...

    Gorgeous Magnavox hi-fi

Call Gary For any phono stylus, or any phono part for that matter, start with Gary at www.thevoiceofmusic.com. I just got back from visiting him. He and I cleared out the VM factory years ago and remain friends. Since then, Gary has created an enormous selection of parts, cartridges and...

So what is the story with Douglas Qwikut

Where I found mine I bought mine NIB at the Salvation Army. However if you search on Douglas Readivac, it comes up as an item readily for sale.

So what is the story with Douglas Qwikut

I have a Douglas Readivac It is identical to the Oreck Ironman, except for some basic cosmetics. I use Oreck bags. It isn't fancy, but it works quite well and is surprisingly powerful. I remember checking its water-lift. Don't recall the result but it was higher than I expected. Not my daily...

An Oreck older than I am?

CVR4000 I too used an Oreck CVR4000 in powder blue and the original Whirlpool/Oreck upright. We had them both at a bank I worked at while a teen. The Whirlpool was black and had "Whirlpool" across the bag. Don't remember the model though. Both were great for quick pickups and stood up to...

    My first stereo

A suggestion If you're looking for an open-reel tape recorder consider one made by VM / The Voice of Music. Many key parts are still available. Visit "thevoiceofmusic.com". In 1998, Gary, me (and a few others) pulled the remaining parts out of the crumbling VM factory over the course of a...

I too have the Nilfisk GS90 It is a terrific machine. The cord does tend to pop out a lot. I did come up with a fix though. You can get the anchor and wire ties at Home Depot.

    New Carpet with Vacuum Limits

Tests for the average carpet buyer... ideas Considering the dilemma of certain vacuum cleaners not working optimally on certain brands of carpet (or carpet types), two things come to mind: A) Should a person buy a swatch of carpet BEFORE buying a roomful and then take that carpet to various...

    Vintage appliance question...

Maybe both... Indeed it may be both the period of time and (at the time) a distinguishing factor between standard and deluxe models. I based my 1970 date on the fact that my father worked for Hotpoint and I would go to the General Electric factory store at about that time. I do recall the...

Which Hoover would you have picked?

The Dial-A-Matic Because it brings back fond memories of the first time I ever used a power-drive Hoover, and ran over my Mother's foot.
