Unfortunately It's an Origin machine with no clutch, so the brushroll can't be turned off. It's mainly for people with carpeted homes.

Hang on BLAME the Panasonic Icon? Blame it? The fact it was slower was a GOOD thing! The faster the brush spins the less deep down the brush agitates! The fact it went slower was a good thing.

Dont A word of warning for anyone wanting one of the DC02's.   AVOID that seller. The parts they sell are faulty, dirty, broken and smelly. I've bought parts from them before and they've all been faulty in some way. Other people I know have bought spares and whole machines from this seller...
