When’s the last time y’all have seen one of these?

And it's bagless.... so ....special. I used a bagged version once to help a friend. It had that nice wide front but it was spewing dirt considerably. I opened the bag compartment and the bag had come off the tube and the bags have no rubber gasket, thus there's no positive seal. The inside...

Finally took down the "Haley's Comet" Vacuum in my attic!

The bar for product design in the 1950s wasn't set very high. If one could get something off the drawing board it was considered a success. There was still a decent percentage of homes in the U.S. during the 1950s that didn't have indoor plumbing. It wasn't a world of "teenager designs his...

Can steam vacuum cleaners be used as a regular vacuum cleaner?

Adding steam or water vapor to the inside of your home will increase the load on your air conditioner, and in places like Florida that are already quite humid and moldy, encourage even more mold growth.....in your carpet, baseboards, walls, etc. The last think you want to do with carpet is add...

Finally took down the "Haley's Comet" Vacuum in my attic!

It looks like the support leg to my mother's 1960s ironing board the likes of which I would rather tear a leg off, drill holes in the base and attach it to a hose and try and vacuum with compared to the weird thing above.

Finally took down the "Haley's Comet" Vacuum in my attic!

Has got to be the most ridiculous, impractical, and no doubt ineffective vacuum attachment I've ever seen. And I've seen a lot over the years. And somebody wants to pay a high sum for this? I wouldn't be surprised

    Overseas Vaccums Question

Ebay has set up shipping agreements all over the world to make buying and selling much easier mostly anywhere. I have bought and sold using ISP with no problems. If you sell in the U.S. the item gets sent to the Kentucky hub and that's the part of the trip you or the buyer would pay shipping...

Adding Sound Insulation to Central Vacuum Motor?

Completely agree "...downfalls that I have seen from thru-flow motors is without extra filtration layers, the bearings and the motor itself can go bad quicker." Totally agree! By-pass motors are best for using with carpet cleaning systems, where water or water vapor is possible or with...

    What the heck is this?!?!

An $18.69 vacuum! I can't wait to peruse the stock. One has to admire a vacuum cleaner store that's still in business. They are becoming a vanishing species. I also like that mural and the retro 1970s awning. Plus the 80s 45 degree cut boards on the front. I would like to stop in there and...

    canadian lux filter

You've been waiting a long time. Maybe you should contact the guy in Moosejaw. I ordered some parts last year from a vac dealer and it took 2 months for them to let me know the manufacturer was no longer making the part and thus they refunded my money.

Vacuum order forms included when new

Isn't most stuff available online these days. Those were the days when buying something new included a plethora of "paperwork" to officiate the occasion. It made you feel important and renewed.

Saw a Kenmore Progressive at Goodwill Today and Walked Away

The "hunt" is always fun. That's for sure. I recently came across a 1983 middle-upper Kenmore power-mate canister vacuum WITH HOSE in the back of a dumpy warehouse "antique" store where the owner was old, sick, and no longer able to tend the store. This kid was doing his best to sell out...

Adding Sound Insulation to Central Vacuum Motor?

Change out the motor to a flow-thru motor. They are relatively cheap compared to a bypass motor. They are considerably quieter. They are more powerful. You will get better suction. I recently found a 1500 watt, 650 Air Watt flow through motor NEW for $39.99 from a CV distributor in FLA. And...

Saw a Kenmore Progressive at Goodwill Today and Walked Away

Once you learn to walk away from what used to be viewed as a treasure, you'll feel empowered. Especially if you were once an avid collector or hoarder, it's a big step. There is freedom with that NO.

Attempt to soften the rubber strips of the RD 285

Probably would have been a good idea to have removed the rubber pieces and soaked them in a solution of water, baking soda, and vinegar over night, then cleaned with a sponge or tooth brush with more baking soda and vinegar. Rubbing alcohol is a strong product that shouldn't be used...

    Electrolux Silverado Deluxe age?

yep, as was said above, Silverado is from 82 to 84 It was mid cycle during these years, that the motor was changed over to a less reliable, cheaper built AND physically shorter motor that technically could have allowed Electrolux to shorten the length of the entire machine about 2" if they had...

    UV-C disinfection lamps

Polio lamps According to Robert, our esteemed host, he has washing machines with Polio lamps in them that help prevent polio. He says he's never had Polio so obviously they work.
