Most vacuums get hot after long periods of use. How long have you had the filter? It may be clogged up, causing dust to escape and preventing the heat from leaving the vacuum.

Are you sure the motors on the mieles were burnt out? I once sold the trade ins for a Kirby dealer, and nearly all of the vacuums they received were working. At most, the machines needed about 30 min of cleaning and a new belt.

One of the most impressive vacuums in my collection is the Riccar 8900. The vacuum works well on both hard floors and carpets, and is on par with my Sebo X series. I have the bottom of the line model, so my vacuum can only clean floors unless the extension hose is added, but I can actually hear...

Another Oreck question. How do I fix the XL21's handle release? The vacuum offers no resistance if the upper section is pushed down or up.

I've got a Sebo X2, basically a domestic Windsor, and it is probably one of the most easily serviceable vacuums in my collection.

I think the all in one upright or canister is more popular than an upright/ canister combo because it seems more convenient. With the upright/ canister, you have to go through the house twice, while with the all in one vacuums you can clean everything as soon as you see it.
