    Dumping vacuums at my Goodwill?!

Amazinly, our goodwill (charity) shops have pre-set sales targets to acheive, so slow-moving, low-profit, or electrical items which need testing, are just not worth selling. Our charity Directors are on £100,000 salaries, while staff are all unpaid volunteers. You can't expect unpaid...

    Kirby additions to new collector

You modify the Em-tor, or change it for a later Heritage-style Em-tor, which takes a Fill-Tube. Install a Fill-tube. Fit a new-style Bag-connector at the top of the fill-tube. One which accommodates later Hepa bags. The whole tube/paper (hepa) bag assembly fits inside the original shakeout...

    The Great Kirby Heritage!

Radiator-Brush? Is that the small plug-in brush at the tip of the Crevice-Tool? I never knew what that was intended for.

    Kirby additions to new collector

The Kirby Classic is not so common here in the UK. Quite scarce actually, at least while I've been looking. Were they USA-only?

    paint off?

Sandpaper will remove the paint OK. As would a Thermal-Lance! The sandpaper will scratch the chrome.

    paint off?

Paint won't stick to shiny, smooth chrome. Pick it off using a blunt, plastic scraper (used to defrost a freezer) or a blunt butter-knife. No sharp edges, no chemicals.

    Vacuum bag fragrance

I used Tumble-Dryer Freshen Sheets to rid a Kirby cloth bag of that old stale stench. They're paper towels, like J-Cloths, with impregnated fragrances, activated by heat & air. Place one or two between paper bag and outer cloth-bag. I nearly resorted to expensive Aftershave dripped on the bag...

    Kirby Tradition Fill-tube design flaw?

Stan: I can't see high-speed itself being a problem for the motor. It's not as though you're over-revving it in any way. The motor was designed to run at high speed - for hoses in the US, and constantly in the UK. Think of the speeds as Slow/Normal, rather than Normal/High. I guess the issue...

    Kirby GSix armature help

I guess the brushes it came to you with, may have been lesser-quality cheap ones, perhaps crumbling? That'd cause excess arcing and flying fragments, giving off sparks. In a different post, someone mentioned that their vacuum shop "dressed the brushes". Creating a curve that matches the...

    Kirby GSix armature help

Oh yes. Please. Definitely post photos as you go. We're all doing similar restorations, learning as we go, and learning from others here. It's always encouraging to see a machine go from wreck to treasure. My rescued Kirby Tradition was similarly abused. The roller had stuck, the belt was...

    Kirby Tradition Fill-tube design flaw?

@kirbysthebest: The new, stronger, bags probably negate that issue now, as you say. Luckily, I have TWO Traditions now, so I'll be experimenting, while still keeping one machine all-original. I'm not really doubting what others have said, I'm sort-of 'Playing Devil's Advocate', questioning it...

    Kirby GSix armature help

Nice eBay picture @huskyvacs, showing the fitting of that Tolerance Ring! Better than a Service Guide. So long as they don't catch-on and start blurring photos, we'll be okay.

    Kirby GSix armature help

Here's your Kirby G6 Motor Diagram, and Parts List: https://thevacuumcenter.com/apps/help-center#!kirby-vacuum-parts-schematic Scroll-down to "Gen 3, G4, G5, G6, Ultimate, Diamond, Sentria" Kirby Vacuum Schematic Diagram Section 3. It appears as though your Ring (Ring-Retainer?) is between...

    Kirby GSix armature help

Is there a G6 'Exploded Parts Diagram' you can refer to? This would illustrate the parts in their correct orientation, and sequence? I had trouble trying to Copy/Paste the Web-Address, but if you Google Kirby G6 Parts Diagram, you'll find quite a few. Something like...

National MC-3000F restoration Capsule Foot Stool Vac

For Enamel paintwork, you CAN use Brasso (sometimes) but Brasso can be quite abrasive and does sometimes stain paintwork a darker shade. Silvo is the less-aggressive product in the range. Be careful NOT to let Brasso loose on some plastics - expanded Polystyrene e.g. - it will dissolve them to...

    Strange Kirby G5 Issue

I've just had a Kirby G4 to peices for refurbishment - it should be the same as your G5, or at least similar. Once the Handle & Casing are removed, the forward/rearward Slide-Mechanism is accessible on top. You have four (silver) Screws holding two V-Plates in which the Bearings and Handle...

is it worth it ?or replace ?

A Canadian Electrolux ZB 86, yes, but a motor, is a motor, is a motor. Sure, they differ in some ways now & again, but here you have a classic set-up. Current into each of the two brushes - magnetises the armature; Simultaneously magnetising each of the two field coils, in opposite polarity...

    Kirby Tradition Fill-tube design flaw?

Thanks Dysonman1, That's the first time I've heard this problem described in that way. I think you're confirming my suspicion that UK machines may not need this mod. because I don't have that suction issue with the original Tradition set-up. Mine goes like a tornado and sticks so firmly to...

    Worried about a member...

Two weeks does seem a somewhat brief period to be worried. Could Shane just be on vacation? It is the usual time-of-year for one.
