    Kirby Handle Spring

The purpose-made Winding Tool is not going to be a complete waste of money, if you sell it soon afterwards. It'll just do the rounds again and again on eBay. Or hire it out to contacts on here? Under Super-Market.

    Electrolux "jar" sprayer

A shampoo & water mix isn't going to harm your Electrolux Jar. If you're concerned, or just want to keep the jar pristine, use a regular $1 Trigger Spray Bottle with your mixture in it. An aerosol foam shampoo which dries into crystals in 1/2Hr might be safer? I'd be more concerned about the...

    Next Kirby?

Hi Bill, Thank-you so much for your reasoned, easy-to-follow, explanation. I've seen so many of those YouTube videos you refer to and, quite frankly, been none the wiser afterwards. Can I ask you; Is "The Suction Cup Effect" where the brushroll head sucks so hard to the carpet, that air isn't...

    Next Kirby?

We Vacuum Collectors, Service-Engineers, and those of us who refurbish older machines, are not Kirby's intended target market, but I can't help thinking manufacturers would benefit from asking for improvement ideas here, or maybe running questionnaires/polls? They do seem to be somewhat insulated.

    Hoover Elite II

Hi Brandon, There are so many tips regarding cleaning & polishing; the best one is to use caution. Not all plastics react favourably to chemicals in household cleaning products. Even then, some which work for others, may not work for you. E.g. Brasso Metal Polish dissolves expanded-polystyrene...

    Next Kirby?

I guess it'd take quite a few years to forget the Kirby Salesman. Especially when you're still paying for the last one.

    Next Kirby?

A hose attachment port (bayonet style) where the belt-lifter is now? Turn the belt-lifter to disengage the roller, and the port aligns to accept the hose? On-board hose storage with basic tools? Removing and attaching the head each time is a pain.

    Next Kirby?

Must be like trying to redesign a racehorse. They've got a winning formula and they're reluctant to change any part of it. Is there really much difference between any of the recent Kirbys? Other than bag colour? Don't get me wrong, I like them, but I'd be hard-pressed to explain the differences...

    Kirby Tadition Wiring

I agree. My Tradition out-performs anything I've owned before. The general consensus seems to be that the Fill-Tube is too narrow. Personally, I disagree. The Fill-Tube is wider than the Hose, and Traditions stick to the carpet so well you can't push them without relieving some suction. How...

    Kirby Tadition Wiring

Jim, If you can find KiWi Blue Shoe Polishing Cream, the one for scuffed kid's shoes, it works wonders on those Brushroll-head Bumpers. Their polishes for scuffed shoes have a stronger dye/pigment content than regular polishes. KiWi stopped selling blue here in the UK, but you might be able to...

    Electrolux UK, What Happened?

Even carpets themselves went out of fashion. People want hardwood floors (or laminate substitutes) and studio warehouse-style apartments. Like those they've seen on American TV & sitcoms. Many vacuums were replaced by microfibre mops. The temporary fad of the 1970's to have rubber-backed...

Shark - amazing rise to the top of Consumer Reports

Remember that SOME Consumer Reports are biased. At best, they tend to be skewed. Assessing only machines donated for review (they don't buy any). Or the review is limited to those manufacturers paying for advertising space. Or they question a restricted consumer demographic. Was the review...

Another Fan that wont give up the Ghost

Ah, that's good to know Les. I was think about buying one of those tools! Come to think of it, they do have that pot-metal look. I wouldn't know too much about 'modern' G-Series fans, only ever had to change Tradition, Legend, and Heritage. Fancy them changing access to the motor armature...

Another Fan that wont give up the Ghost

You can buy a purpose-made Kirby Armature-locking Tool for help with removing fans; eBay "Kirby Armature Fan Locking Tool Hold Armature - T130" One of the USA Kirby suppliers has them also. But a screwdriver used with caution achieves the same task. Perhaps try grinding or filing two flats on...

    Electrolux UK, What Happened?

I think it just became the 'perfect storm' and they couldn't endure it. None of those huge Companies could. They made a profit, yes, but only up to a point. Then it ended. It became cheaper for suppliers to import products (e.g. vacuums) from the Far East where labour's cheap, than to buy...

    Electrolux UK, What Happened?

Hi Jake, I don't have any solid news or facts regarding Electrolux' demise, but it seems that all long-lived brands such as Hoover, Electrolux, Bush, Phillips... made the same mistakes and ended-up the same way. Too reliable: Companies who built their names and empires on reliability, suffered...

    The "CHRISTMAS NEWSLETTER" is coming.

Hello, I'm sure a lot of work goes into your Newsletters. All of which will be appreciated when the time comes. But, there is a right time, and a wrong time, to start Xmas. Perhaps as soon as we've had Halloween, and Guy Fawkes night (Fireworks)? That means Christmas lasts the whole of...

    The "CHRISTMAS NEWSLETTER" is coming.

I don't want to sound like The Grinch, but its FOUR MONTHS away. This dilutes Christmas. We can buy Mince Pies at the Petrol Station from June. They show "Home Alone" and "Home Alone II" on TV in July. Now, where can I buy a tree that'll last sixteen weeks? It's a summer heatwave of 36 degrees...
