    The Hurley Thor!

Plating's not that hard. Though the size of it might be a little problematic. It's polishing it prior to plating that'd be the real work.

    Rayvac

Interesting that they advertise a price for a lot of 3. I wonder if they were aiming it more towards janitorial use or something.

    Vacuum vibration

The motor itself blow out with compressed air. The fan blades... well it depends how and with what they are caked. If possible, clean mechanically. ie - with a brush or pipe cleaner. With soapy water if you like. Don't get the motor wet.

    Simplicity Craigslist Purchase: NO SUCTION!

It looks like the front of the base plate should hook into the front bumper or something. It has a big lip on the front of it that's hanging down... looks like it should be somewhere.

    Gear Problems

I'd imagine the poor quality lubricant they had in the day wasn't up to snuff with the high speeds the gears run at (I think it's high speed, anyway). Likely the gears were simply galled, very slightly.

    Vacuum vibration

The fans may simply be caked with dust.

    Curbside Shark Vacuum

I mean, when I found my Shark in the garbage, it was only missing the cord. No other issue. I found a second one years later, and that one simply had a plugged filter. A fool and his money are soon parted.

    Air Way

@ohiovacuums - if you could link me to your thread, that'd be nice. I can't seem to find it. I'd appreciate the artwork as well, no rush, this thing's gonna be on the back burner for a while.

    Air Way

I got me an Air Way from that proxibid auction someone posted. $10 and came with a hand pumped old vacuum as well. More on that later. Had to drive two hours to get it (looked closer on the map). It's in rough shape. The motor isn't frozen, but the bearings are gummed up. It'll need new wheels...

    Sanding out scratches on aluminum.

Scratches look too deep for 500 grit. They're more like gouges. I'd start with 100 - 200. Sanding disc on a drill or die grinder would make short work of it. But whatever floats your boat.

Whitworth and Imperial are two very different things. Technically, the US bolt / thread standard is not 'Imperial' so to speak. You'll often see it called 'SAE' which is a misnomer, because that's the Society of Automotive Engineers. If anything, it'd probably be ANSI, but it's one of those...

Royal 6103b -- handle not staying in handle clamp

Older vacs will have a sheet of fish paper wrapped around the bottom of the handle, to electrically isolate the handle from the rest of the machine. I don't know if that's the case with Royals. But maybe cut up a cereal box or something and use it the same way. It'll add friction, too, which...

Best way to vacuum carpeted stairs

lol I use my straight suction Eureka model 10. The handle can be locked in the all the way down position, so it becomes rigid and easy to manage. Now, that's probably not the *best* way...
