Miele s314 Red Star motor upgrade trouble

The real problem is not knowing what the control unit does and how it's wired. But hey, you got it.

    Rusty Hoover Armature Stuck

Well the bearings are already forfeit, so don't worry about destroying them. Just be sure to get the trade number off of them before you do, so you can buy new ones.

Stinky bagless vacs and bulky item day trash finds.....

I think a big part of the problem with bagless vacs and stinky pets is simply that the operators don't empty the damn things.

    Roper Dryer has stopped working...

Husky, brushed universal motors are mostly limited to vacuum cleaners. Washers and dryers use induction motors. I suppose it's possible it's a capacitor start type, but generally if a cap goes, it would either end in smoke or the motor humming as it tries to start, which is apparently not the case.

    Roper Dryer has stopped working...

Well if you think the start switch is bad... follow your gut. It probably controls that relay. Remember high current switches are the ones that go bad. In this case, it's probably that relay.

    Sewing machines

I've got my grandma's Kenmore sewing machine. 1970s or 80s, not sure. It's made by Jaguar, a Japanese company, but the machine is made in Taiwan. It's always been a finicky mistress. Years ago when I got it, the zig zag gear was stripped, luckily I was able to find a new one. I've had to oil the...

Sheared screw of rear axle on Kirby Classic 1CR

I look at it this way. If you sheared the screw by (over)tightening it, the screw is not stuck. It's just sitting there loosely. Some patience and gumption will get it out. Drilling is a last resort for this situation. You will only make it worse, or damage the hole. Just baby it out. I'd try...

Cable controls on Hoover power drive/self propelled uprights

The cable tube or sleeve is there to keep the geometry constant even though the cable isn't in a straight line. You adjust the cable by adjusting the clamp position of the tube. On my Hoover, the clutches were worn out, so I took the gearbox apart and shimmed them out.

    Roper Dryer has stopped working...

That's correct. Either side of the plug to ground should read 120v. Granted, you're hoping ground is functional. And that's only because Neutral is tied to Ground. If you have the 4 pin plug, I believe the middle pin is Neutral, so either side pin (Line) to that should be 120v. Line to Line...

    Roper Dryer has stopped working...

Does it have a light bulb inside? Does it come on when you open the door? Don't worry about 240 volts. Ground is midway between the two Lines, so even if you got shocked from ground to either Line, it would only be 120 volts. Intentional safety design. Plus, you'll be fine. Just the other day I...

    Found a 'Bucket List' Item...

My grandpa was an electrical engineer for Simpson back in the day. I have a whole bunch of Simpson stuff, including half a dozen 260 meters, an oscilloscope, and wave generator. Strangely his tube tester was a Hickok, even though Simpson made tube testers. He once explained the mirror on the...

    Electro Hygiene motor help

The field coil is the large ring-shaped iron core with copper windings. The photo makes it look crispy. Maybe take another picture? The commutator is the round brass part the carbon brushes ride on. Any non-detergent 30w oil will do.

    Electro Hygiene motor help

Brushes are fine, make sure they are not oily. Armature looks ok, maybe hit the commutator with a scotchbrite pad. The field looks crispy, but it's hard to tell from the photo. Other than that, make sure it's wired right, since somebody has clearly been in there before. And make sure the...

    Westinghouse Armature

It looks strikingly similar to a Cadillac armature. Now that's probably a long shot. It could be repaired, rather painstakingly. It would need to be rewound - most likely - and they do sell commutators by themselves. aliexpress, probably.

Making a replacement Hoover cloth bag

I thought moths only eat wool. Anyway, some tight knit twill or light weight denim should do.
