You do need the bag adaptor, the bag can and will slide off the pipe, the adaptor will actually hold the bag on itself.

Making the fibers fluffy actually improves the filtration. The fibers were fluffy when the bag was new, but they get all filled with dirt, so you do want to wash it gently in something like Woolite, and I’d recommend doing it by hand, the silkscreen lettering is the most delicate thing about...
