    GE Dishwasher bit the dust

Successful Maiden run... Just a quick update: I ran the new dishwasher after supper last night, even though it was only about half full. I was immediately impressed with how quiet it is. Standing there in the kitchen with it running, I could barely hear it. I will say that doing a normal wash...

    GE Dishwasher bit the dust

Finally! The diswasher is installed... Wow! That was a chore. A guy came by Sunday to look at it, but he didn't have the proper tools with him. He was supposed to come Monday afternoon, but he didn't make it until yesterday. He replaced the copper water line with a modern, flexible line, but he...

    Penncraft & Penncrest Trademarks—1963-1965

I actually met Mr. Penney when I was about four years old. He was on hand for the opening of the JCPenny store near our house, around 1967 or '68. The store kept the original "Penny's" signage with the stylized blue 'P' up on the exterior until sometime the late '70s.

You're doing good work! It's also cool that you have the hassock to store it in.

Whirlpool Bathtubs Are A Dead Trend?

Jacuzzi shoe storage My parents had a jetted tub in the master bath of the last house they owned. There was also a separate shower. The novelty of the thing wore off after a few months, and for the next 18 or 19 years, Dad used it to store his shoes.

    1970s Errands—including an aqua Electrolux Model G

Yeah, our next door neighbors had a Ford Country Squire like that in light blue. They also had an Electrolux 1205.

Yesteryear Grocery Shopping & True Value Trading Stamps

S&H Green Stamps I don't remember Top Value stamps, but several supermarkets and gas stations we went to offered S&H Green Stamps. I remember pasting the stamps into the redemption booklets, but oddly enough, I have only one vague memory of ever going to the Green Stamps store to redeem them...

    GE Dishwasher bit the dust

The new dishwasher is almost in place. It's all hooked up, but it needs to slide back another inch or so to fit properly, but it's catching on something. Also, the water inlet line has a very small drip that needs to be addressed. I'll probably end up doing what I did before and seal it with RTV...

    E;ectrolux Super J De Luxe 1401

That's an excellent find, especially to be complete and with the original woven hose that doesn't leak! That alone is pretty remarkable. And the price was quite a bargain, considering the power nozzle alone could fetch more on eBay than you paid for the whole kit. I hope you enjoy it for years...

    GE Dishwasher bit the dust

So, my GE Nautilus dishwasher decided to quit draining, and yesterday, I took the inlet and outlet covers off, which was a real chore, and what was underneath was totally gross. From all visual evidence, things should have been working much better after I cleared all that stuff out and water...

My first of this era Electrolux!

There are always possibilities... You can put any Electrolux power nozzle you want with it, as long as the electrical connections fit together. One option, if you like the PN4 design, would be to get a painted one from an Olympia One or a Silverado and repaint the top to match or complement the...

My first of this era Electrolux!

Shiny metal... All of the PN2s and the early PN4s had shiny metal covers. During the Olympia One's production run, beginning in the late '70s and running into the early '80s, Electrolux made the regrettable decision to start painting the the top covers of the PN4 chocolate brown to match the...

    Housing market update

Exactly. When I bought my first townhouse 30 years ago, the real estate agent I used put me in touch with a loan officer she knew at a local bank, who 'pre-qualified' me for my mortgage so we had a realistic idea of what I could afford. It made for a much easier and more successful house hunting...

Is a manual carpet sweeper worth it?

Pizza Sweeper... I remember using one of those when I worked for Pizza Hut back in the early '80s. Of course, it was a manual model back then. We used it for quick cleanups when there were customers in the dining room (yeah, this was back when Pizza Hut was primarily a sit-down chain before...

My first of this era Electrolux!

Looking at your photos, you've got a powered hose with internal wiring. The electrical connections on the vacuum are built into the hose coupling on the front of the machine. The wand that came with it would most likely have had a pigtail connector at the top and a receptacle to attach at the...

My first of this era Electrolux!

Nice 1205... Congrats on your 1205. They're great machines. I'd say that was probably a fair price, although it is odd for the front caster to be missing. Maybe it suffered a similar fate to the one on my Silverado, where the wheel got damaged. Mine was worn flat to the point that it would not...

What was the strangest thing you found stuck in a modern vacuum

When I was in high school, back in the early '80s, my dad rescued an Electrolux 1205 off of a neighbor's trash pile. It had no suction through the hose and he quickly deduced there was a blockage. It turned out to have a significant amount of commercial grade carpeting, the kind that unravels by...

    A couple of Electrolux 1401s

It never sank in with me before seeing your photos that the Super J and the Olympia One were actually the same model with different cosmetic treatments, kind of like Kirbys for the past 30 years.
