That would happen quite often. The adhesive with the date code sticker often fell off after a little bit of use. You can kind guess it's date ,based on if it's a plastic base or a magnesium base.

Yes according to many manufacturers. However I wouldn't consider that a "sealed system". However if we're talking about a vintage maybe not so since a lot of them do leak air. However if you washed out your machine and install a HEPA bag with a gasket, I wouldn't be worried about air quality...
