    Tried out a Shark!

I just knew I'd open a can of worms when I posted my previous response... I never implied that the Kirby was difficult to maintain. It has always been easy to maintain, and frankly, enjoyable to maintain. I love that it's completely modular, and how inexpensive parts are. I absolutely love the...

    Tried out a Shark!

I tried an NV500, and bought it. We like it so much, we no longer use the Kirby G6. It out-cleans it. Yes.. it pains me to say it, but despite all my efforts at maintaining the Kirby and keeping it 100% within spec (leak free, right brush roller adjustment, etc)... the Shark NV500 blows the...

Signs of needing new carbon brushes?

No spark, smell, or loss of power. I'm going to say the brushes are NOT the issue here... I'll see if pushing on any of the motor's body parts makes the issue stop or change. Hope that's all it is. Otherwise there is no abnormal noise in upright rug nozzle mode, which is how it's used 85% of...

Signs of needing new carbon brushes?

How do most G series Kirbys fare with the longevity of their carbon brushes? My G-six runs fine, but when using the hose (high speed setting), it has a bit of a... rattling/grinding noise that is only intermittent. I suspect it might need new bearings at some point, but I don't want to go down...

    NICE KIRBYS !

Shake-out bags are fine, if you have perfect nasal/sinus anatomy, and are not prone to allergies. Yes, removing the dust each time is satisfying to see it all go away when done. But, I now am even more satisfied when I change my G6 HEPA bag every month or 2, to see not only is the disposable...

    Poor Mis-matched Kirby...

I am amazed by this listing. How many models of Kirby parts are on this machine? :)

    Kirby Sentria

The Kirby Floor Buffer is only recommended for solid hardwood floors. I haven't heard how well it works on engineered or laminate hardwood flooring, but it's not recommended, and the flooring manufacturer (of engineered or laminate flooring) may void your warranty if you don't use their list of...

    Kirby Tile and Grout cleaner

Yeah Jeschbac, the tank is only there to trigger the safety switch, and to catch any lint, dirt, or other debris that gets vacuumed up in the process, which is then caught by the sponge filter. With all the lugging, lifting, configuring, rinsing, futzing that you have to do to use this system...

    Kirby Tile and Grout cleaner

I tried using the Tile and Grout cleaner again a few days ago. I'm discovering some quirks with the system, and potential pitfalls. The first oddity is that zero water is used. The entire cleaning power comes from the solution that you spray in the floor. Pros and cons, of course. For any...

    Kirby Tile and Grout cleaner

Finally tried it out... I finally tried this out today. I ordered it from GoodVac.com. It came with 1 sheet of paper inside with directions. This paper looked like an 8th generation photocopy, and was impossible to read. The box had directions printed on the outside, which helped. But neither...

    An EBay horror story..........(not).

It's good to see people who don't take life too seriously. I wish everyone could just have a sense of humor, and find that fine balance between pun and serious logistics that is often lost in translation.

Cleaning and lubricating Kirby G series motors

And the end result... Just need to polish it, but inside it's squeaky clean. Works great!

Cleaning and lubricating Kirby G series motors

Motor was fine... just a general clean-up This being my first time to ever take apart and reassemble a G series, it took me several hours to do this. I disassembled it all the way down to the motor, but I did not lubricate or clean the bearings or armature. The photo was "before" I blew out the...

Cleaning and lubricating Kirby G series motors

Just got a new beast... A G6 2001 edition. Got it for next to nothing, just the upright cleaner and hose. I'll buy a full attachment set later. The bag is in the wash right now. The whole thing is a filthy mess but it runs well! I'll post some progress of the cleaning process as I go.

Cleaning and lubricating Kirby G series motors

Out of curiosity, can anyone tell me what this guy is doing at about 2:28 of this video? He appears to be running the bare motor, and applying a sort of eraser on the armature to clean its surface as it spins. Also at 2:44, is he using a metal wire to "pick" out dirt from around the motor? At...

Berber carpet with Kirby brush rolls

Yes Benny, our berber is the "modern" definition of berber, being just a relatively cheap looped pile carpet. I don't know how prone it is to brush roller damage, but I understand all berber carpets CAN be damaged by that. I'll probably be on the lookout for a free and/or dirt cheap G series in...

Berber carpet with Kirby brush rolls

Somewhere I read that the G series bristles were stiffer nylon, and the older ones were horsehair. However I can't validate the horsehair claim, as both my brush rollers seem to be some kind of nylon material, all solid black bristles. I think only the Miracle Head had all horsehair bristles...

Berber carpet with Kirby brush rolls

I've seen a LITTLE discussion about using delicate brush rollers on berber carpet. There's a special delicate brush roll for the G series (parts number 159394 for G3/G4 and 159398 for G5 and later) but I can't find any of such soft brush rollers for earlier models. I have both the original...

Tile and Grout cleaning with pre-Generation Kirbys

Yeah that makes sense. Oh man, this is making it SO much more tempting to upgrade to a G series now. I won't really have room for both machines.
