    Kirby Metal Fan Question~

Are the old metal fans preferred over the new plastic replacements? I've read that some people prefer the sound of the metal fans. Really? They sound that different? Are there any other reasons I might want to look for a metal fan? I'm just asking because I just bought a Classic III that has...

Thanks Bikerray! I saw that clip. I thought it was part of the belt hooker thing. Now it makes more sense. Thanks. :)

    Kirby Odorific Drops Question-

GAAACK!!! My new original Odorific arrived. It isn't even remotely similar to the original original. It's just a common lavender blend. It doesn't fill a room with aroma like the old stuff did, and don't get it on you. The smell does not age well. Maybe I'll just suck up a handful of those...

How The #@&% Do You Get This Kirby Belt Lifter Off???

I'm trying to restore this Classic III.(which is in far worse shape than it looked in the Ebay photo). I have a new belt lifter to put on it, but I can't figure out how to get the old one off. I could just break it off, I guess, but I'm afraid I might break important retaining clips or...

Kirby Speed Switch Acting Wonky. Please Advise.

Thanks!!! You're right. I tried to rig it back up with more spacers, washers, hot glue & such. Now the high speed doesn't work anymore, no matter what I do to it. So I just spliced the red & yellow wires together to run on high speed, just until I get a new switch. Thanks a bunch!

Kirby Speed Switch Acting Wonky. Please Advise.

I just bought a Classic III CB-2 from ebay. It ran fine with the carpet nozzle, but wouldn't turn on for the hose attachment. Upon inspecting the speed switch, I saw that the previous owner had stuffed two layers of cardboard (cereal box type) behind it, between the switch and the housing, as...

Kirbysthebest Tutti fruiti. That's pretty much it, isn't it! Like a tutti fruiti incense without the smoke. :) Brilliant idea, sucking up a cotton ball. The genius of simplicity. Thank you!

Advice on Firing Up an Old Kirby, Please?

I just ordered a Classic III that has been in storage for untold years, and looks it. It doesn't appear terribly worn in the photos, but the oxidation looks like I'm in for a challenge. Are there any precautionary details I should address before running it, such as oiling any particular parts or...

    Kirby Odorific Drops Question-

I've just ordered a new bottle of Odorific original. I haven't smelled that since that old bottle my mom probably bought in the 70s, but I still remember the fragrance vividly. As my sister so succinctly put it, "It smells like a clean hippie." :) I'm wondering if they've changed the formula, or...

I wonder how many 1950s housewives loved their vacuum cleaners this much...

My 2 Cents As far as the housewives in the old advertisements, seen enjoying their appliance with an unnatural passion, one has to consider the fact that these companies were trying to sell it. Naturally, they're going to make their models look overjoyed with the product. Whether or not women...

NOS Kirby Attachments Dilemma : To Use or Not To Use?

Vacuum Land Has Spoken Well there it is then. :) I've always collected vintage & antique...whatevers, and usually any unopened 40+ year old find is an amusing treasure, best left unused. What a RELIEF to find this is not the case with Kirbies! I finally get to just tear something open with...

Has Anyone tried a Kirby Auto-Restoration?

Nevermind OK, never mind. I found a thread talking about polishing Kirbies with their own attachments. Apparently, some think they do a good job. As for the Kirby polishing compound, some like it, some don't, but most agree that Flitz brand polish is excellent. It's even sold on the Kirby...

    My lifelong obsession.....

HA! *snort* I threw my head back and laughed out loud at that. :) I too loved my mom's Kirby, even as a child. I remember polishing it as far back as about 11yrs old, and wondering to myself, "Why am I polishing the friggin' vacuum cleaner?"

    Kirby Boxes

Green??? What is that beautiful GREEN kirby??? Awww son of a crapsnack! I swore I wasn't going to collect vacuum cleaners! "All I need is the one." I said. And I really believed it too. (The wife,... did not.) Wait. I can rationalize this. We'll be more likely to vacuum regularly if we have one...
