Bleach or Bluing? How do you get your whites "really white?!"

I'm going to use the salt soak method on anything new I get. That sounds like a good idea. I haven't used Borax in a long time. What does Borax do? I know it's a fantastic hand cleaner after working on vehicles! Gets the grease off my hands and fingernails too. Gl5 and and red grease can be...

Bleach or Bluing? How do you get your whites "really white?!"

Hi Laundry question here: How do you get your whites really white? Do you use Bleach or Bluing? I am a bleachaholic, I use Clorox Germicidal bleach 1/2 cup diluted to 2 qts of water that I add to my Maytag 208S. I fill the machine, get my clothespin in the safety switch (us vintage maytagers...

Does anyone have a picture of Keeler's self propelled converter?

What's the deal with Keeler? I'd be curious to see a Keeler Conversion. Especially the Classic 3 described above. I'm curious: when Keeler is brought up- people on this and other forums seem to have a negative slant towards him. I remember when he tired to advertise his bagless Kirby Kit back...

Opinions on what vintage vacs would sell today..??

Marketed right, I think the Tristar CXL/DXL would sell. Durable, reliable and simple. When I worked at the vacuum store, I knew professional cleaners and guys in construction (especially drywall) who used them because of their durability and constant airflow.

    Electrolux XXX cloth bag upgrade

close but not quite.. Those are some pretty good ideas. I'm thinking of upgrading the entire cloth filtration - eliminating the need for paper liners. I was thinking of the cloth dust collection bags used on Wood Shop dust collectors. The replacement Lux 30 dust bags have nice, new rubber...

    Vintage PINK Compact / IEC

I noticed that sometime in the 60's Compact sold a pink Compact which was billed as "Compact Standard" and the aqua Compact Electra. Both had the odd, external PN hook up towards the rear of the body. Did they both use the ABC PN? Did Compact make a pink ABC? I have seen a couple examples of...

    Electrolux XXX cloth bag upgrade

Hi. This morning I was using my 1948 Electrolux XXX vacuum cleaner. My grandmother and my great grandmother bought it new together -they made every other payment and one week it was at my grandparent's house the other week it was at my great grandmother's house- they would shuffle it back and...

    Miele Vacs

I haven't seen those in almost a decade. I didn't know Miele still made them. I remember them from back when I worked at a vacuum store. I thought they were replaced by the S7 uprights- which are pretty good machines! The guy I worked for didn't carry the Panasonic Mieles, he sold Simplicity...

    "Manufacturer Refurbished"? My Arse!!!

Return it I'd open a case/ and or return it. That is not a properly refurbished machine. Funny, buying on eBay with a stock photo makes me think of an online blind date. Always ask for "proof pics".

    What Would You Have Bought?

I would have bought a fully loaded D2-A with all the accessories: 4 qt pan, extra long hose - etc- No, wait a minute- I'd still get ALL of the accessories but I'd make an additional aftermarket customization: I would rig up a brown 15' electric FQ hose to work with it. First I'd remove the FQ...

Rainbow E2 Black Teardown and Restoration

@ tolivac: The motor assy is referred to as a "pump" in Rexair literature I have seen. Balancing notches in the fans? This is new to me. Tell me more about it, I'm curious. I have replaced countless fans in Lamb motors (FQ, Compact Royal pony etc) and Rainbow single speeds ( B through E2) and...

Rainbow E2 Black Teardown and Restoration

40511. Same here. Nobody borrows my Rainbow at anytime. Ever. I once loaned a mint condition Eureka 1400 upright to a customer to use while I fixed her vacuum. When I picked it up a week later, it looked like it had been in a demolition derby! scratches, a dent, the machine stunk something...

Rainbow E2 Black Teardown and Restoration

P.S. I don't mean to scare anyone off. If your Rainbow is properly maintained, or even reasonably maintained- You'll never have this problem. My 2003 E-series was clean enough to eat out of when I got it. My E2-Onyx is food grade clean after the clean out I gave it. I think the Rainbow is a...

Rainbow E2 Black Teardown and Restoration

Update! The fans and my 14' hose arrived! I really like the extended hose. The fans on the other hand: BENT!! I found out after going through the replacement process, my machine sounded worse than it did before! I was so mad. Here is what I learned with that project: Don't bother with the...

Rainbow E2 Black Teardown and Restoration

Hi Fred, I saw your restoration of your D4SE post. That is a beautiful restoration. I got the idea of putting vacuum parts in the dishwasher from that post. I redid a 2001 E Series Single Speed using that technique (I'll post the photos of that when I find them). With your E-Series, I'd...

Rainbow E2 Black Teardown and Restoration

@ kirbysthebest: Did/ does it have the Armadillo bag? The Omega is my favorite Kirby. Must have been a beautiful machine when it was just out of the box. Did you get your Rainbow new as well? Did you have to go through a demonstration? to get them?

Rainbow E2 Black Teardown and Restoration

Hi Floor-a-matic, How did you manage to score a brand new Onyx as an Xmas gift?? That's one hell of a present! I'm jealous. As far as the HEPA on mine went- God only knows what the prior owner vacuumed up in it. As far as I'm concerned, pets and vacuums shouldn't mix. I think that many...

Rainbow E2 Black Teardown and Restoration

Hi Kirbysthebest, The Chrome domes are pretty good machines. They are remarkably quiet when they are well maintained. How long have you had your Omega? Did you get it new? Thanks Miskini. They do come up on CL from time to time, but they go quick. Hope you find one. It took me a while for me...
