    "new" hoover D-A-M

The T-height lever was in use on all non power drive Dial-A-Matics from about 1970 (with the model 1130) until about 1978. When the Concept 1 debuted in 1978, Hoover switched to a sliding height adjuster. My guess being with the new plastic base, the T height adjuster would have put too much...

    Jeannie had a Roll-Easy!

Yes, I remember that episode, and here it is. For some odd reason, that DAM 1118 had an aluminum strip covering the Hoover name. Perhaps Hoover never gave permission to use the cleaner for Bewitched or I Dream of Jeannie? Also, I recall in at least one episode, they also had a coffee can...

    Dyson vs. Royal Everlast/Kirby

I'm with Tolivac, I have a DC07 and a DC24 (gave away my DC15 Ball animal), and thusfar every Generation Kirby except the Diamond G. I will agree the newer Dysons clean better, but I still prefer a Kirby hands down. The Dyson brushroll is too aggressive on carpets, that's why you will still...

This Christmas I am getting a.....

My favorite is the Generation 3. Probably because it is the cleaner that started it all! It was the only Generation without those wacky bag graphics, and after 20 years, the Sentria is virtually the same machine.

    Kirby Ultimate G question

For all intents and purposes, the 2-speed switch is the only difference. Well, that and the diamond pattern on the bag. I know people who have the 2-speed machine love that switch. When I first got my Ultimate G (non-Diamond) about 2 years ago, I compared it with one of my Generation 3's and...

Where do you get your vacuums?

How often does your friend Freed find Bisons? I'd give $20. for a Bison in a second....

The universe is groaning over this incomprehensible tragedy

Washing Kirby bags Everything said here is very true, and it is a shame. But it would be even more of a shame were it a black duvetyne bag with the red & gold graphics. Seems everyone and his brother who had a 505 upgraded to a later bag at some point. Like the gentleman said, he rescued...

    How do I......

Yes, removing the base from the rest of the cleaner is a pain in the ass (and it would almost seem as if designers at Hoover wanted it that way) but it's the only way to access the motor. Having just taken apart my 1136, I remember how much firsthand. There are two pop rivets on the bottom...

    URGENT NOTICE RE KIRBY

Wish I lived on the west coast. $100.00 for a 508 with the original bag is a fabulous deal! Do you think the seller would ship? - Karl

Okay, so now I need a Model L Motor...

Wish I had a spare model L to help you out. Just out of curiosity, wouldn't she prefer to upgrade to something more powerful, like a Super J or a Silverado? - Karl

    Large Vac Collection For Sale

I was wondering what happened to Jim. I'm very sorry to hear of his failing health. I too wish him all the best. Several years ago, he helped put me in touch with a flea market vendor that had a Hoover Dial-A-Matic 1110 The cleaner I remember best of Jim's collection was a pristine 1949 G.E...

    This is just wrong

I don't - there's a sucker born again every minute lol. It would have never fetched that kind of price without the original duvetyne bag. Messed up though it may be, they make these vintage Kirbys worth a FORTUNE! I only wish there was somebody with talent out there who could fabricate them...

1969 Sears Best Kenmore Duo Power Upright

That's a lovely Duo-Power. I have two of them, and in terms of build quality, it's not a wonder why so few of them survive today. It was meant as a direct competitor to the Hoover Dial-A-Matic, but the DAM is superior in every sense. Just out of curiosity, what type of bags do you use? Are there...

Found this lovely Convertible (UK) Part Today - Anyone know the model?

Indeed, you have a beautiful collection of Dial-A-Matics (er, I mean Convertibles)! I only wish Hoover produced them a little longer in this country. I love the all gray and mint green/dark green models. Do you have any of the burgundy models from the late '80's? That one was stunning.

Why would anyone bother listing crap like this?

I don't know, I had thought maybe an early demother attachment? With those wheels I thought it was a real early Hoover (perhaps a model N), but alas, just another Frankenvacuum. This is not the first time the seller has listed that machine. Also, $40. is kinda lofty for shipping.

Another eBay seller with stars in his eyes

Here's another one.... The seller must have gone on the Kirby website and assumed it was one of the first. I could actually use it as mine is missing the front set of wheels, but not at that price. The whole thing is in rough shape. Although then again, with what I've seen 2R's, 3R's, and 4R's...

    Hoover PowerMax question

Thank you Sam & Nathaniel. Mine was manufactured in May of 1994 according to the S.N., so I guess it was one of the last. I figured with its short cord and lack of headlight it was a BOL version. Also, there's a cutout for a speed switch which I guess the TOL version had? I have another PowerMax...

    Hoover PowerMax question

Seems nowadays, it's getting harder and harder to find quality vacs at the flea market, but today, a Hoover PowerMax model U3715-930 followed me home. It's far from pristine shape, but I liked the teal blue color. What I wanted to know is when did Hoover make the transition from steel agitator...
