    Found a Dial-a-Matic yesterday

"The D bag isn't overly large, is it?" Maybe not by today's standards, but when Hoover introduced this new bag type with the DAM in 1963, it was better than the Type C & Type W by leaps and bounds. At least dirt didn't spill all over the place when you changed the bag. That's a beautiful...

    Hoover Convertible Headlight Trim

I guess they're about as hard to find as an original vinyl bag if it's not still on the machine. You would think there would still be a 65-68 in a trade-in pile somewhere that has it. The hoods on mine aren't warped, and the headlight lens has two studs which protrude through the hood to hold...

    Hoover Convertible Headlight Trim

Would anybody happen to know where I can find the chrome headlight trim for the early Hoover Convertibles? It's missing from my 65, 67 & 68. I guess vac shops didn't always put them back when servicing the machine. Any info would be greatly appreciated. - Karl

has anyone ever heard of this?

It's amazing how much the Filtropur looks like the Hoover Z! I guess TTI can't sue them for patent infringement because it was one the last machines Hoover (as we knew it) produced before the takeover. - Karl

    Bison on Ebay

Isn't that either Jeff Parker or Tom Anderson selling the machine?

    Bison on Ebay

Indeed it did, and that bag IS bojack! Bison never made a machine which used disposeable bags. When the Bison factory closed in 1983, Kirby had only started using paper bags 4 years prior. Bison's "sani emtor" emptied from the side, whereas Kirby's from the bottom. Everything about the...

    Sad trip to becoming Vintage

I thought I was the only one lol. My favorite is the Remington Microscreen XLR-3000 from 1977. Victor Kiam loved that shaver so much he bought the company! It remained in continuous production until 1998.

    Simple Kirby Question

Micron Magic Later G4's have "Micron Magic" printed on the bag clip. Was the filtration really that much better, or was it a marketing gimmick? - Karl

    Sad trip to becoming Vintage

Fortunately, as more and more people are becoming aware of the internet, these horror stories are becoming less and less. Late last night, I found an ad on Craigslist where a house was being cleaned out, and one of the items was a vintage Kirby. So of course, I had to look. Turns out the...

    Post-1980 Kirby Model Chart

Some late Heritage 2 (1985) models may have this also. Yes, they do. I have two Heritage II Turbo's from about 1987 with the Brushroll Performance Indicator. I believe it was during the production of the Heritage II Turbo that Kirby shaved the rear "wings" off the rug nozzle. - Karl

    bojack vintage hoover outer bags

There is a Hoover 541 on eBay right now with the bag you are looking for. According to the seller it doesn't work, so maybe it won't go too high.... http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Hoover-Vacuum-1920s-541-4-Parts-Fix-/400190448555?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item5d2d35a3ab

    They knew back then....

Everything you say is true. Sad, but true. Last year, my 1947 Frigidaire finally conked out after 63 years of service! I still have it, but the piston inside the compressor wore out. If that's the mentality of TTI, it's for sure I won't be buying one of their "Dirt Devil" Hoovers. You don't...

    OMG!!

There's a reason no one has grabbed it. In the description it mentions that the base is broken where it meets the handle yoke. I wouldn't even know how you would repair something like that, and quite honestly, I don't have the room for another imperfect machine. There was just another R1 for...

Old Sweeper Sighting -- of all places!

Idk about "Love American Style," but I was just watching an episode of "Father Knows Best" where Jane Wyatt is vacuuming the living room with a late '40's Premier upright. You don't see the whole machine itself until Robert Young carries it back into the kitchen for her. - Karl

    <front color= red> Fanom?

The original Fantoms WERE good machines. They were made in Canada, and while a little pricey, still cost less than the Amway ClearTrak, which was the only other cyclonic bagless available at the time. I have two Fantom Thunders and a Lightning. I also have a Westinghouse Wired which looks...

    Which October 1973

You are indeed correct. MacDonald Electric produced the Oreck CVR/XL-4000 series for Oreck. But the predecessor to the Oreck was actually the Whirlpool CVR-2000 & 3000. Oreck bought Whirlpool's failing vacuum cleaner line in 1963. Mr. Oreck gave licensing agreement to MacDonald Electric to...

    My Awesome Find

U3105 I have a U3105 in my collection, which I've had since about 1996. I asked how old it was to a Hoover expert on this site, and the reply I got back was 1982. - Karl

Two true Vintage gems: Sweeper Vac & Universal

Universal sales brochure Just found the brochure to your machine on eBay. I have the same model, rebadged as "The Whirlwind" from about 1929. It has a cloth braided cord. Apparently, the ball-bearing motor was a BIG improvement. I have a straight suction Universal from about 1922 that used...

Ugh, why do they always do this?

Here we have another beautiful polished vintage Kirby for sale on eBay (and the seller is charging accordingly). It's listed as a Dual Sanitronic 80, but without a builder's plate, how will anyone ever know again for sure? Why do mom and pop vacuum shops rip off the builder's plate during the...

    Kenmore Duo-Power upright

Well, in the case of the Duo-Power, I've seen examples as early as 1966, which means they were only 3 years behind Hoover developing a clean-air upright. Each had their advantages and disadvantages, but overall, I think Hoover built a more durable cleaner, which is why so many more DAM's...
