Premiere Duplex motor The odds are that someone on here will have a spare motor, just keep asking ;-) All best Dave T

Help ~ Suppressor removal from Lux 616E

3-wire capacitor Personally, I'd leave well alone, but if you really want to remove it (which may cause the motor brushes to wear more rapidly) just cut all three wires and remove it..... The two black wires will be to live and neutral of the motor, and the white will go to earth. The case...

    Removed the U1012's suppressor

Suppressor removal Whilst removing the suppressor won't have any immediate ill effects (apart from probably generating LOADS of radio interference), you can expect more arcing at the brushes, with consequently faster brush wear, and more commutator burning. Keep an eye on it ;) All best Dave T

    Dyson DC24 Brushroll Motor

Warranty and/or lifespan I'll check out the warranty status. :) As for a design life of 60 hours or so, that wouldn't surprise me at all. I recall hearing (many years ago) that the 'design life' of the original (D500, etc) Black and Decker electric drills was 1 hour!! The logic being that you...

anyone have a pic of this vacuum?

Styling 'They just don't make cool looking stuff like that anymore.' More's the pity... :-( Would it really cost manufacturers SO much more to sell us an item of beauty as well as functionality?? Please discuss!!! ;-) All best Dave T

    Dyson DC24 Brushroll Motor

Brushroll motor Thanks for the speedy reply, Parwaz... :-) I'm mystified as to why the (permanent magnet) motor tests 'open circuit' at any and all positions of the commutator against the brushes. If there is no thermal fuse, this would indicate that ALL of the windings must have failed...

    Dyson DC24 Brushroll Motor

A friend has asked me to 'look at' his Dyson DC24, as it 'won't pick anything up'. A cursory examination reveals no brushroll rotation, and dismantling the floorhead reveals a brushroll motor which measures 'open circuit'. The motor brushes are in good order, and there is no sign / smell of...

Free-to-a-good-home U2880 I vaguely recall giving one of those away, too..... ;) Enjoy Dave T

    Homemade vacuum attachments

Photograph, as promised I have no idea what machine the smaller hose is from.... It was just one I had lying around. Simple device, crude, but effective. The area airflow inside the canister is low enough that even very fine metal particles settle out. All best Dave T

    Homemade vacuum attachments

Swarf collector I recently made one of these, to keep scrap metal separate from workshop dirt, and help keep metal particles off the felt filter of my Bosch. Yes, it works very well. A photograph will be appended as soon as I next go to the workshop. All best Dave T

    eBay tragedy

Packaging I once spent a few weeks working in a freight depot. The things I saw there beggared belief. The item you are packing may be fairly light, and you may feel that it will not burst it's box in transit. The problems start when your lightweight item is followed off the conveyor by a Ford...

Bosch Injunction Against Dyson & Energy Labels

Age of house (and that's not music!!) No, Parwaz, mine was built shortly after WW2. It doesn't have the high ceilings usually associated with Victorian homes, but is plenty draughty enough that I rarely have problems with condensation on windows. Victorian 'two up / two down' cottages were...

    Daewoo RC-350BK

I've just been given one of these, about 12 months old, because it's lady owner found it 'too noisy'. I have used it at the lady's home a few times, and it does, indeed, have a rather high pitched motor whine. Is this normal for this type of vac, or is it likely to be suffering after clearing up...

Bosch Injunction Against Dyson & Energy Labels

'Window Vacuum' At risk of 'hijacking' the thread....... I have seen advertisements for these. It appears that they are a 'new invention' for removing condensation from windows. I am fortunate enough to live in a pre-1980 house (by a good many years), so if I have any condensation, I just open...

    amp talk

Amperes, Watts and efficiency At a fixed supply voltage and roughly constant power factor for a series wound motor, The current draw will roughly equate with the power drawn from the mains supply. Unfortunately, this has little equivalence with the amount of dirt which a cleaner will extract...

    Ebay Situation

Postage rates I assume from this discussion that there are different postage rates for different articles, 'Statesside'..??.. Here in the U.K. there is a special low rate for newspapers ONLY, which just have a label affixed, and cannot be covered/sealed. We USED to have a lower postage rate for...

Awright, which wire is yellow and which is white?

Braided brush lead Ideally, this should connect with the wire to the brush holder, but looking at your photographs, it looks like connection will probably be adequate without it. On photo#4 one brush holder appears to be the 'black' lead, the other is probably internally wired to one end of one...

    I'm on the radio again

Multi-reply Firstly, congratulations, Turbo500, on your radio 'appearance' (do you actually 'appear' on the radio???) and for helping to debunk decades of poor and lazy advertising. Nice comment about 'Joe Public' expecting a machine to work 'out of the box' and not having a collection of...

    Is this gold or junk?

Old cleaner Hello, and welcome to Vacuumland, Stormy. :-) It's probably fair to say that ANY old cleaner in working order is going to be worth 'something'.... Just how much will depend on condition, rarity, and transit costs. Very few are really 'junk'. ;) Sadly, I'm quite new around here...
