as a 37 year hoover warranty service and repair sales dealer ....the cwp agitator in an older convertible causes drag in the 3.5 amp 425 watt motor in the 1957 to 1974 models due to the brushes being so hard thus causing the drag....the brushes on these units were longer and softer and not hard...

oh yes john i had a ball servicing robs unit when he was here....it was so clean .....well kept...and the suction was amazing .....especially when i showed rob how hoover would decrease the sution in the tool lid by not blocking the cutouts with the metal clips on the bag door in non windtunnel...
