Doug, let me add my sincere condolences, what horrible thing to happen! We're all behind you. While the loss of the building and part of your collection is gut-wrenching, thank God there was no loss of life.
Did you try leaving a box of baking soda in the closed hassock? It may take a few days, but often the soda will soak up any odors.
I've had some success with wadded up newspaper in "aromatic" luggage, but that takes much longer.

Coke has acid. We used it at Jack in the Box to clean oil off the drive-thru pads. I don't think it'd be great for restorations. Naval jelly is my remover of choice.
