    What's better than brand new?

Oh, and I almost forgot! Check out that MINT Disturbulator! No chips or nicks in the beater bars here!

    What's better than brand new?

Pins attached. Notice the lower pin on this side...this machine appeared to have been used once, probably for a demonstration, and you could tell someone wedged a screwdriver in there to remove it. If it's hard to attach them, I can only imagine how difficult removing them would be! Personally I...

    What's better than brand new?

Pushing the plastic pins into the handle to hold the two sections together...the pins are very stiff, making it MUCH harder than it looks!

    What's better than brand new?

Clipping the cord into the lower handle section. What I find odd is that the upper handle section has the cord holder on the opposite side, facing the front.

    What's better than brand new?

Success! Now the upper handle fits into place.

    What's better than brand new?

This little "handle coupler" was what I did NOT notice in the box, and I (who up until now, had been assembling only Convertibles) had the hardest time trying to figure out how the two sections of handle went together. I dug around in the box some more, and d'oh, there it was! Here's how it is...

    What's better than brand new?

Waiting to be put together... Actually, more like waiting for me to figure out the instructions, as I had not assembled a 1980's Eureka before, but it was really nice to gain the experience! Notice the phone below, next to the machine...that was Mr. Dial-A-Nap himself on the other line.

    What's better than brand new?

The first box Contains a fab Eureka 631D in forest green!

    What's better than brand new?

Why, NEW OLD STOCK, of course! Thanks to David letting me know about a FANTASTIC eBay "gold mine", I had the wonderful opportunity to buy three NOS Eureka 1400-series uprights, as well as a 3300-series canister, on eBay. While they weren't exactly cheap (the total, including shipping and another...

    Fantom Vacuums

Also... It's worth noting that the HORRIBLE motor in the Dirt Devil Broom Vac mini-upright I had, which caused me to literally bash it to pieces, was made by GS Electric. Feh.

    Fantom Vacuums

Fantom...that brought back memories... I was only 4 years old, but vividly remember when the IONA Fantom came out (before it was even called the Thunder, and had 11 amps). I wanted one in the worst way, of course, and I asked my mom to request one of the demonstration videos, which I watched...

What I used to vacuum my house tonight...

Just spotted something peculiar... I noticed the 630 and 631 in the ad have 4-position and 6-position Dial-A-Naps, respectively. Hardly the case here. My 630 only has two positions, and the 631, four! How strange is that?

What I used to vacuum my house tonight...

So THAT's what it is! ...And all this time I thought it was an upright! Very nice Fred, that machine is in just beautiful shape! I love how they were still calling the power nozzle the "Roto-Matic Power Team"; I'm guessing it has the Vibra-Groomer II? Another thing that really surprises me is...

Yikes... Excuse my redundancy in the last post, with the whole "beautiful vintage" phrase...

    Crazy For Kenmore!!

Jeff, beautiful vintage Kenmores! That '66 Duo-Power is definitely a nice one. I have to wonder, though...were the attachments ever offered on-board at any time during the production run? Pete, I've seen pictures of your Kenmore on AW.org; hopefully it will turn up. Interesting that you...

Some vacuum finds this Veterans Day...

Hey Tom, awesome finds! Interesting that you mention different height indicators between certain Dial-a-Matics; the one on my 1131 is quite different from that of my 1149. I'll go ahead and post closeups of the two. What does yours look like? That 1348 might be well-loved, but look on the...

Looking for some new friends to talk with

Hi Patrick, Have you considered joining the VCCC proper? In my opinion, you should! I sent my membership form in on my 18th birthday this year, became a member a couple of weeks later, and haven't looked back!

    Crazy For Kenmore!!

Fred, BEAUTIFUL vintage Commanders, especially that teal/green Ken-Cart; thanks for sharing. Was the one your mom had on a cart, or just the "horizontal tank" version? How many of those Kenmo's do you have, since these new beauties have arrived? Hopefully you'll soon find the elusive TOL Lady...

Bissell HealthyHome bagless vacuum,Hoover fusion,DirtDevil reaction

Tom, I agree--it doesn't take rocket science to figure out that none of the Dyson clones work. We had a GE (Wal-Mart) bagless upright (bought in 2002) for 2 years, and its performance gradually dwindled with the passing of time. I would wash that pleated filter out CONSTANTLY, with no signs of...
