Kirby Avalir- higher speed than prior models?

You are right: the Avalir takes the same armature as the G-series. I replaced the armature, front bearing and the fan and shaft ( might as well since I got this far) and now it runs perfect in both carpet and hose mode. I couldn't stand the vibration it had earlier. One of my friends said it...

Kirby Avalir- higher speed than prior models?

Hi. I just bought an Avalir for my birthday and I am in love with it. I noticed that it has a smoother transmission than my Diamond and G6 did. it sounds like it runs at a higher RPM rate than any of my prior G models (and Diamond on high speed) did. Anyone else notice this? Does Avalir run...

Today's Vac Du Jour Hoover Convertible Commercial

Hi. I was checking out the vacuum of the day and saw this convertible. It has the narrow bag. Out of curiosity: would that have been a cloth shake out bag? Compared to a Kirby, Royal, or even the cloth shake out bag on my (sadly sold) Hoover 300, the commercial Convertible bag pictured looks...

    Filter queen

I think it was either the 75th or the green FQ where they started to go cheap on the motors? The test results above do not surprise me. I think the quality started to go down after the Triple Crown. It's a shame- FQ could build a phenomenal cleaner like they used to- just better, not cheaper.

    Filter queen

I don't understand all these issues with the Filter Queen. For my daily driver, I use a vintage (circa 1980) Filter Queen Model 31 with a Model 48 PN, and a modified 15' electrified hose. I vacuum up all kinds of fine dust and regular dirt. I have NO problems whatsoever with the suction/...

    "Does Not Work"

Wouldn't surprise me, when I worked in a vacuum store, I started to become convinced that 60% of the time, the average person wouldn't even know what end of the vacuum cleaner goes on the floor. Now throw in a speed switch..... there's a curve ball. $500.00?! What are these people smoking? and...

    The Ugliest Filter Queen?

** In good-natured fun** Today on eBay, I found a Filter Queen "Emerald" which was basically an Optima with a Majestic motor on it. I wondered if the HMI boys said "whoops" after they built their Optima, realized that it was a Lewyt-esque flop, then decided to do what they could to salvage...

Did Filter Queen discontinue their 10 foot hose?

I have been trying to locate a black Filter Queen/Princess 10 foot, electric hose. So far nothing has come up. Did Filter Queen discontinue these too?

What are you oldest most cherished vacuums?

'48 Lux XXX. My grandparents bought it new from a salesman. They went 50/50 on the payments with my great grandparents and shuttled it between them every other week. I have it now.

Does anyone have a picture of Keeler's self propelled converter?

What's the deal with Keeler? I'd be curious to see a Keeler Conversion. Especially the Classic 3 described above. I'm curious: when Keeler is brought up- people on this and other forums seem to have a negative slant towards him. I remember when he tired to advertise his bagless Kirby Kit back...

As far as Lewyt Big Wheel goes, There is a new Shop Vac that is sold at Lowes that is similar to the Lewyt Big Wheel- stretched and plasticized... http://www.lowes.com/pd_757597-20097-8891411___?productId=999957747&pl=1&Ntt=wet+dry+vacuums5

Opinions on what vintage vacs would sell today..??

Marketed right, I think the Tristar CXL/DXL would sell. Durable, reliable and simple. When I worked at the vacuum store, I knew professional cleaners and guys in construction (especially drywall) who used them because of their durability and constant airflow.

    Electrolux XXX cloth bag upgrade

close but not quite.. Those are some pretty good ideas. I'm thinking of upgrading the entire cloth filtration - eliminating the need for paper liners. I was thinking of the cloth dust collection bags used on Wood Shop dust collectors. The replacement Lux 30 dust bags have nice, new rubber...

    Vintage PINK Compact / IEC

I noticed that sometime in the 60's Compact sold a pink Compact which was billed as "Compact Standard" and the aqua Compact Electra. Both had the odd, external PN hook up towards the rear of the body. Did they both use the ABC PN? Did Compact make a pink ABC? I have seen a couple examples of...

    Electrolux XXX cloth bag upgrade

Hi. This morning I was using my 1948 Electrolux XXX vacuum cleaner. My grandmother and my great grandmother bought it new together -they made every other payment and one week it was at my grandparent's house the other week it was at my great grandmother's house- they would shuffle it back and...
