a memory a vaccum kid NEVER forgets.....

Once again I must say that is such a beautiful machine! So was the bag and emtor kept in her basement cause it looks like it's all put back to original now. Looks great except for the belt lifter... May I suggest spending $10 and replacing it with a brand new one? (see link). Changing it is...

Cracked Fan in my Kirby Heritage

I have read that metal fans are over rated and that they do not perform as well as plastic fans. That all the rage about metal fans is basically a myth. Metal weights more so it's going to put more load on the motor and not spin as quickly or take longer to spin full speed. Wish I remembered...

    Kirby Tech Drive Clicking

I think a *little bit* of click is OK, that is the sound of the plastic gear engaging or disengaging. But if it is really loud it may be the cam bracket needs to be replaced (a common issue apparently). Check out this link, step 13 specifically. (I tore down my G5 to fix the N/D switch, it...

    Some cool old Vacuum ads

"SHE would like one of these for Christmas" It's funny how sexist vacuum ads, and even instruction manuals were back then!

    Vacuum Cleaner Biz

big box and the internet I am into photography, which means buying expensive camera equipment. Nowdays people do not need to go to Bob's Camera shop to buy a DSLR, they can buy a basic one at Walmart. Best Buy carries a wider selection of lenses and mid to semi-pro gear (and can maybe order...

    cleaning VINTAGE bags (Kirby 510)

companies who use sprays to dye furnishings I work at a car dealership and we have a guy that comes in and repairs auto upholstery and interior parts (he also does furniture and other things too). As great a job as he can do on plastics and leather, cloth fabric never seems to look quite...

[Royal] Dirt Devil Handy 150 hand vac?

Now that I think about it, I don't think I am going to buy the DD. For one thing, I don't have carpet on my stairs yet (that go to the basement) I just use straight suction on them with either a Kirby or Shop-vac (whichever is out). I have never used a DD but I just don't think that with the...

    Other than duct tape?

It looks like it's mostly the ends of the hose are cracked I would see if it's possible to remove the end then cut the bad area of the hose off (assuming hose is long enough) then reattach them. Otherwise i'd be looking for some sort of replacement hose as I think using tape looks bad (ok maybe...

    cleaning VINTAGE bags (Kirby 510)

I think I will not touch the bag. Even if i were able to get it to look grey, there would be the problem of that silk screening which would surely get damaged even from wiping it with a wet rag. I truly do appreciate how rare it is- I'm always searching ebay for parts of my 70's and 80's vac...

    cleaning VINTAGE bags (Kirby 510)

don't worry, i do not intend on getting it "wet"! I may try a very tiny amount of fabric cleaner somewhere on the bag where you can't see it, but I will not get it wet. I did clean out the inside pretty good by following the shakeout bag directions as instructed.

    cleaning VINTAGE bags (Kirby 510)

I have no problems tossing a Heritage or G series bag in the washer and having it come out fresh and clean. But with my Kirby 510, a 62 year old vintage machine, if something happened to the bag well it's damn near impossible to find a replacement! My bag is in good condition, however I do not...

[Royal] Dirt Devil Handy 150 hand vac?

I was thrifting today and came across a Dirt Devil Handy 150. I didn't buy it just yet, because I wanted to see if they are any good of if they are cheap like the newer Dirt Devil 'all plastic' models. this one says Royal on the bag, and has a metal rug plate. The hose attaches to the front...

The Best $10 I've Ever Spent!

That is awesome! You could always sell the G4 and easily get over $100 for it, but it's a nice vac if you don't have a G series I suggest keeping it! :)

    vacuum abuse.

this retard has all sorts of vacuum destroying videos. I don't know what his problem is, he could pick on other appliances. The one that I did find amusing was the Kirby Classic III he put under water and it would not die!

Kirby Classic III bag - How to Refit

I guess it's silly that I've never tried turning them inside out. :P I've washed all the bags on my Heritage and G-series, but flipped them inside out through the full length zipper. Vaccuumed them with the shop vac then a rinse in the laundry tub (to get any gunk off) then in the washing...

Kirby Classic III bag - How to Refit

I would like to wash the bag on my Classic Omega, how exactly did you go about washing the shakeout bag?

    Clean.....or much cleaner

Back to the original topic.. I wonder how people REALLY know how clean their carpet it? Do they use test strips, vacuum then clean out the vac and put a new bag in, reclean and cut the bag open? Or do they just get on their hands and needs and look at the carpet? Do you think that some...

    2 speed kirby sanitronic motors

high speed brush roll, bad idea... as twocvbloke mentioned running the nozzle on high speed would likely cause damage to the unit. Have you ever taken the nozzle off after doing a thorough vacuum and then touch the metal part on the vacuum that holds/spins the belt? It is quite warm to the...
