    Central Vac Circuit Board Question

The ground wire goes on the middle terminal between the two black wires. Depending on its age/use, it might make sense to have a new motor on hand too. They go out more often than the boards, in my experience. Hope this helps! Owen

The Eureka Mega Boss and Ultra Boss

I once saw the 15" Ultra Boss being used to vacuum the entry mats outside a Marriott in Lexington, KY. This was 25 years ago, so the vacuum wouldn't have been very old (and I can't imagine it lasted very long in commercial use). Have not seen one since then, either in use or brought in for service.

    Hoover Baby Model C

Beautiful, Tom! When is that one from? 1912-14 or so? I'm assuming it's contemporary with the larger ones behind it. Earlier still would be the "Friction Drive Baby" and even smaller "Hooverette" (that probably still weighed 30lbs...) Owen

    Miele brilliant question

Small amounts of fine dust like ash are no problem as long as you are using genuine Miele bags and filters. Check periodically to make sure you see no dust in the bag chamber (that would have worked its way through the bag). What happens when you pick up large quantities of fine dust (like...

    Hoover Baby Model C

Recently I acquired what has surpassed my Model 102 to become the earliest Hoover in my collection, this Baby Model C. Not to be confused with the later Baby Model 103, this one was made between 1916 and 1918 (the town of New Berlin was renamed North Canton in 1918 as a result of anti-German...

    Disposable Bag Timeline

Hygienisac vs Handisac I was always under the impression that the 1929 thing was called the Hygienisac and was somehow different from the Type W "Handisac" used on models 60-62. Was it really the same thing and Hoover just brought it back? As I recall, the Hygienisac was made to go on the...

    Rare (?) Vintage Central Vacuum - Flo-Lite

Hi, thank you for sharing that picture! What you have is a mid-1960s private labeled Vacuflo Model 26. My understanding is that the "Flo-Lite" name was used by a direct sales/marketing company that worked off of referrals, like many door to door vacuum brands (Kirby, Rainbow, etc). "For each...

    Eureka model 2061 D

There is a rule of thumb with the two available Eureka fans... Motors with the brushes on the bottom (like your ESP motor or the smaller "blender" motor) have a thicker lower bearing plate and thus need the shorter fan (81092) for clearance. The early "pancake" motor design with brushes at the...

    Singer "magic cleaner"

I replaced the cord on one of these once, but too long ago to remember any particulars. The contact block may have unscrewed, or it may have had rivets that needed to be drilled out. If your cord is fine, you won't have to mess with that side of the winder. Repairing/rewinding the "clock...

    1915 Invincible Brochure

Very cool!!! Thanks for sharing. So your machine is a 1/3 horsepower "Three Stage Junior Truck", it appears. And how much more awesome is the term "stationary plant" than the modern and boring "central vac"?!

    Unusual Electrolux Model V??

Ahhhh. Thank you, Charles! The USA Electrolux literature that I have seen does not mention a Model VII. Also, looking closely at the badge, even though "110" is stamped after "V" in the model area, it does appear that under "Electro Lux" someone scratched "220V". What a shame it doesn't have...

Vintage Regina Heavy Duty Model P1022P Floor Scrubber.

Today That machine and several variants can be purchased under the "Koblenz" name, as that company bought (or copied?) the molds and started making them under their own name in Mexico. The same Koblenz company (Thorne Electric) also makes a metal, fan-first upright similar to a Sanitaire.

    Unusual Electrolux Model V??

I just came across this Etsy listing for a very nice early Electrolux (missing the hose unfortunately) and it is unlike other USA Model V machines...was this model sold in another country? The nameplate suggests it is a 110 volt unit, though there are no pictures of the plug. The only two...

What vacuum does the US Iowa Senator have?

It would appear that he uses a Hoover Concept Two. I just did some work at a local village president's home and he's still got a 1970s Sears lawn tractor in active use. Nice to see elected officials being frugal with their own money, not that it necessarily means they will be frugal with...

Am I changing this belt correctly? (Pictures)

Looks right to me. If the squeaking happens when pushing/pulling only (not continuously) I would suspect wheels rather than brushroll. A drop of lubricant like Tri-Flow on each wheel at the axle should make it go away. Hope this helps, Owen

    vintage Whirlpool Vacuum on eBay

CELOC I remember seeing the 1990s orange Oreck canister called the "Celoc" (pronounced see-lock?) and didn't Oreck also use that word to describe the filter bags on the uprights? Interesting to see that it originated with Whirlpool. Anyone know what it meant? Was it an acronym? Amazing to see...

    Hoover Grease Gun

Here are some photos of my Hoover grease gun, which I inherited when I took over the store from the previous owner, who had been a self-servicing Hoover dealer from the late 1940s. It looks like the grease gun was an off the shelf product from Stewart-Warner, with a (now worn down and stripped...

What is the purpose of the 8.4" motor?

That's a shame about the motor damage. Wonder how it happened. That is normally a very long lasting motor (1500+ hours thanks to extra long curved carbon brushes). I've wondered the same thing about a smaller fan in a larger casing. Seems like Lamb's earlier, less powerful designs used fans...
