    Vintage Central Vac Find

That was an awesome find!! The H-20 uses a big, powerful 7.5" three stage motor. "Only" about 85" waterlift, but 130 CFM wide-open. Quite good cleaning power at the hose end, especially for the day! The H-20 in 1958 would have been their better/more powerful residential unit. The base model...

    Hoover "Central Vacs" discontinued?

Scott - yes I'm with you...would take the Hoover over the NuTone for sure. Although the NuTone unit would have used a disposable bag, so maybe I'd have to give it some thought. Both had awfully heavy hoses, but that Quadraflex definitely outcleans the NuTone/Eureka Roto-Matic head.

    Hoover "Central Vacs" discontinued?

Alex, I do have pictures of the brochure for this machine, but not scanned copies sadly . Hope you enjoy nonetheless! John, Your house sounds like it's quite something! Someday when you're ready to look into a vacuum system installation, maybe I can help. -Owen

Late 1960s Kenmore Auqua Air Central Vacuum, Ohio

It is really cool to see one of these machines in the wild - I can't imagine they sold too many of them, and to see a survivor 50 years later is remarkable! The wet/dry Kenmore unit could be used for wet pickup, floor scrubbing, drain unclogging, etc., similar to how the Aqua-Air is advertised...

    Hoover "Central Vacs" discontinued?

John, I hope you do get a central vac system installed - I wouldn't be without one at this point. I sadly have no real use for an upright in this house (no W2W carpet) but the central vac gets a workout for the hard floors, dusting, vehicle cleaning, etc etc...not to mention the area rugs. In...

VacuMaid Central Vacuum Inlet Valve Mounting Bracket

Matt, I hope you have been able to find a plate that will work with your inlet. Mine in my workshop (microswitch version but same mounting holes) is screwed to a standard metal mounting plate like you have pictured, and the screws do go in at an angle, but it works. Thicker wall construction...

Making a Central Vacuum Control unit

Pretty cool! I do like the idea of the relay and transformer (or integrated control board) mounted separately, though it makes the installer's life a little more complicated. The controls are made to last as long as or longer than the motor, and usually they do, even when mounted in the same...

    Hoover "Central Vacs" discontinued?

I don't have any direct info on what happened there, but I wouldn't be surprised if they have exited the CV market. Hoover centrals have, for the last 25+ years, been made by Cana-Vac, and I don't think ever sold that well (at least in the states - Canada might be different), compared to other...

    VacuFlo Model 26 Circuit Board

Gregvacs28 I would love to see pictures of the control boxes you have built! And the rest of that Filtex brochure, while you're at it ;) Some CV manufacturers today (CycloVac comes to mind) do isolate the control board in its own vented section of the housing, separated from the insulated...

    Beam 2900 central vac

The Beam 2900 was the most powerful machine in Beam's lineup from about 2001 to 2006. It has dual two-stage 2 5.7" motors in "air parallel" and runs off a 240 volt, 15 amp circuit. It will suck the paint off the wall! The ratings are the same as the Beam 3500 machine they have made since then...

Kirby Headlight Cover - Up or Down?

Would that be... Aunt Dabney? It never occurred to me to use a Kirby with the headlight raised up - I couldn't stand to look at it that way! It even always bugged me that the light cover wouldn't go all the way down when the belt lifter was "off" on some models.

    Sanitaire SC679J fan chamber depth

The shorter fan is for the motors (like the one the SC679 comes with) that have brushes on the bottom closest to the fan. The motor bearing plate has to be thicker, so the fan has to be shorter as a result. There isn't a dimensional difference in the bases (in the fan chamber/motor mounting...

Dating a Vacuflo Central Vacuum Unit

Unfortunately Vacuflo serial numbers are cryptic and pretty much have meaning only to HP themselves. As Greg said, on the motor (which for this purpose is hopefully the original one) will be a code stamped in green (later) or black (earlier) ink. Sometimes there is a letter at the end. But the...

    1918 TUEC 260

That's awesome!! Have never gotten into 3D printing, and I am very impressed. How hard is it to set up a print job like this? Owen

    1918 TUEC 260

SuperOcd - It would technically be a bypass, as the debris gets separated (or at least about 90% of it) before going through the fan. It isn't quite cyclonic separation, as the dirt pretty much drops straight down rather than spinning around. But the fact that the only thing resembling a filter...

    1918 TUEC 260

Thanks for the video - sounds like a TUEC! You may want to fill up those two oil tubes. Bearings sound dry, but they may just sound like that even if you've oiled them. I hope the attached pictures of the plug and key will be helpful. Owen

    1918 TUEC 260

Hi! Your TUEC 260 was one of United Electric's later designs, and made use of a universal-type motor instead of the split-phase motor that the earlier machines (at least the single phase AC ones) used. It's altogether quite a bit smaller than the earlier TUEC units, as well as units of...

Best Central Vacuum Power Team/Power Head

I used a Beam Q for several years in a second home, and have repaired enough of them to have reached a conclusion... In my opinion, there are much better power heads for the money. It cleans well, but has some very weak points in the design (handle release, swivel neck, telescopic wand, hose...
