So what is the story with Douglas Qwikut

I have a Douglas Readivac It is identical to the Oreck Ironman, except for some basic cosmetics. I use Oreck bags. It isn't fancy, but it works quite well and is surprisingly powerful. I remember checking its water-lift. Don't recall the result but it was higher than I expected. Not my daily...

An Oreck older than I am?

CVR4000 I too used an Oreck CVR4000 in powder blue and the original Whirlpool/Oreck upright. We had them both at a bank I worked at while a teen. The Whirlpool was black and had "Whirlpool" across the bag. Don't remember the model though. Both were great for quick pickups and stood up to...

    Picked up a.....

I too have the Nilfisk GS90 It is a terrific machine. The cord does tend to pop out a lot. I did come up with a fix though. You can get the anchor and wire ties at Home Depot.

    New Carpet with Vacuum Limits

Tests for the average carpet buyer... ideas Considering the dilemma of certain vacuum cleaners not working optimally on certain brands of carpet (or carpet types), two things come to mind: A) Should a person buy a swatch of carpet BEFORE buying a roomful and then take that carpet to various...

Which Hoover would you have picked?

The Dial-A-Matic Because it brings back fond memories of the first time I ever used a power-drive Hoover, and ran over my Mother's foot.

    Convention 2014.............Did it really happen?

Why Charlie Must you insist on raining on other people's parades? Your comment is sufficiently crude for me to make this leap and comment. If you don't enjoy collecting vacuum cleaners, go elsewhere, but leave us to enjoy our craft.

    Convention 2014.............Did it really happen?

Truly a terrific time Lots of vacs and three great tours too! Got some good tech talk, a terrific awards and dinner banquet... and best of all - lots of fun for all. I was so impressed with CWP, Kirby and Filter-Queen. All were very engaged with the group and clearly worked hard to ensure...

    Kenmore canister memories

Two Kenmore memories The first Kenmore in my life is one I picked up in the garbage. Grade school... It was a vertical tank-type with a top flip lid that opened with a thumb latch. It worked great and I enjoyed using it. The neighbor came over one day and saw me with it. She was glad I found...

    Quiet Wet Dry Vacs

Oreck commercial My Oreck commercial vac is rather quiet. Bought it new about two years ago. Got sick of screaming motors. The Oreck commercial did set me back around $600 if I remember correctly. It is terrific and is pure quality throughout.

What favorite vacuum cleaner(s) came out the year you were born?

I'm also 1962 I didn't know what vac was launched in 1962. Thanks for the info. Maybe the Hospital Model G is why I like turquoise so much. That probably was the first vacuum-cleaner my little eyes ever saw!

    Convention Registration

How to confirm one's registration? My notes show I sent the form and payment on 4/3/14. However, there appears to be no feedback mechanism to confirm the registration went through properly. Is there a method or preferred e-mail to confirm registration? Thanks for any additional information.

Whats your quietest and loudest vacuum?

Quietest and loudest Quietest is my Nilfisk. Loudest WAS my Eureka "shop-type" vac that I bought about 15 years ago. It was so loud I told the vac shop I would only buy it if they put a MUFFLER on it. And they did! For 20 bucks they put a muffler on the exhaust. Overall I couldn't stand the...

2 More HOOVER factories are closing

That sucking noise Was TTI pulling USA manufacturing to China. C'mon, did you REALLY expect any different from any Chinese manufacturer ? Oreck is next, just you wait and see. When "China" says, "We will keep manufacturing in USA", their next message will be, "Oh... that answer was only...

    Scary Vacuum Cleaners

Oh yes, the Westinghouse upright Our Westinghouse upright was just simply scary looking. Although my parents were married in the late 1950s, the vacuum cleaner was bought used. I suspect it was from the late 1940's. It certainly worked well but it had a big, brown bag that inflated to a big...

    Origins of Kenmore Name

Chicago has KENMORE AVENUE There is a Kenmore Avenue found throughout Chicago. I don't know if it pertains to SEARS brands though. If indeed they did pick a street name, they made a good choice. Chicago streets that would NOT make good appliance brands include: GOETHE (everyone...

Recommendation for a high filtration bagged vacuum?

Nilfisk ULPA I have a Nilfisk ULPA with power nozzle. We have pets and allergies. You can tell the difference in air quality after vacuuming. And guests with pet allergies report no problems at our house unlike others.

    A quiet shop Vac ?

My Oreck commercial vac is quiet.. I too got very tired of ear-splitting, short lived shop-type vacuum cleaners. The Oreck Commercial is quality in every way, but it did set me back about $600.00. However, I did have a muffler put on a previous (non-Oreck but popular brand) vacuum. I joked...

    Bakelite hand held vacuum cleaner

Probably very rare Bakelite is brittle so I suspect not many of these units survive. Great find but don't drop it!

    Contest idea / Hand vac

Howdy, Yesterday I picked up a hand vac (GE AVH45). Now with my four hand vacs, the thought crossed my mind as to whether there was a performance contest for hand-vac cleanability at the meets. If it's already been done.. spill the beans... I've only been to two meets thus far. I'm still a...
