    Hoover windtunnels

S2_82 I wouldn't worry about future parts availability for Windtunnels. They made that model for such a long time, and TTI (company who owns Hoover now) seems to be doing pretty good as far as making spare parts available for all of the vacuum lines in their portfolio.

I don’t know which one to chose from!

They're fine vacuums as long as they're used for their intended purpose, which is low-pile carpets. They're not designed for deep-cleaning, just as a Kirby isn't designed for light surface cleaning. I hate using my Kirby on our large area rug in the living room, it's just too much machine for...

    My 1st Riccar!!!!!!

Great find I've been wanting something like that here lately, but I don't know if my wife will let me in the house with another vacuum! I've heard that the Tacony vacs in general have stiff brush strips, so much so that there are certain types of carpet you wouldn't want to use them on.

DIRECT AIR VAC VS CLEAN AIR VAC

I agree with you in general A good clean-air machine (like the brands you have listed) combines great agitation with decent airflow. Well-designed air paths are key, too. You have to have both of those sorted-out, since most clean-air machines are about maxed-out on their power outputs (well...

    I got a Whispertone!!!!

I've always liked the Panasonic uprights from this era, and anything similar (Sharp Twin Energy, Sanyo). Good machines, and clean styling. It's sad that Panasonic is all but leaving the vac business, but at least we can get similar machines from Tacony.

    My Newest Shark!

I will concede that Sharks are better than Dysons. I know the one we had lasted a lot longer than the Dyson did, and it was half the price.

Maybe this is the reason some can't keep a vacuum very long

The Legend II I just cleaned up looked like someone used it to vacuum a restaurant or something. There was this waxy buildup all inside the rug nozzle, the fan housing, and in the EmTor. It took forever to clean off, but I managed to get just about all of it.

    Opinions on Kirby Generation 3

Any Kirby from the G3 until now is going to be very similar, mechanically and performance-wise. Kirby did do minor tweaks between models, but it really comes down to your color preference as to which G-series model you pick. I will say that if you end up getting the G3, take the nozzle off...

Looking for a canister for around $400

Nathan I sent you an email via the Gmail address listed in your profile. I'd like one of the later metal body ones.

    "What's under the mystery tarp?!"

Looks like a couple of Royals up front for sure, I wonder what the teal canister is?

Looking for a canister for around $400

Wow, so there's pretty strong support for Electrolux/Aerus! I really do like the looks of the Diamond Jubilee that Mike linked to in the second post. And I like the fact that the bags cost way less than the ones for the Miele do. Ideally, I'd like to find one with a Side Kick, and a correct...

Looking for a canister for around $400

Leaning towards Miele I think I've pretty much narrowed it down to one of the Miele offerings: This pure suction model with the Turbo head...

Looking for a canister for around $400

Several great options... thanks for running those down! I like how the Sebo website gives you a running total of any accessories you want.

Looking for a canister for around $400

I use my Kirbys for where I have carpeting, but I have quite a bit of laminate in the house, so I'd like to have a canister on hand for that, and for when I don't want to hassle with getting the Kirby attachments out of the closet. Also, we have a German Shepherd that we allow on the couch, so...

    Legend II Rear Axle

    Legend II Rear Axle

I got my Legend II back together this afternoon. Everything functions well, but I'm having trouble with the rear axle. It was bent when I got it, like it had been dropped on its rear wheels, and the head of one of the screws sheared off. I was able to extract the rest of the screw, and used a...

Why Dyson is the best vacuum in the planet.

What a joke... Years ago, my wife and I bought in to the Dyson hype, and bought one for $400 that lasted about 6 months. I can say with some certainty that they don't hold up to daily usage, at least around our house. Wish I would have spent the money on a used Kirby back then, we'd still be...

    Former lurker here....

Thanks for the quick response, guys! My kids don't care too much for the Kirby noise, either. But, I have to remind them that its their messes I'm cleaning up, so they'll have to get used to it!

    Former lurker here....

Hello all! I've been checking out the threads on here for about a few months now, and just thought I'd dive-in and go legit! A little history on me: I've always been interested in all things mechanical, and really interested in anything that's old, as well. I just love the workmanship that...
