    Project D80 complete!

Thank you! Here’s a picture with better lighting... also, I had to adjust the bumper (I tried to get around the traditional way of installing a new one and...it didn’t work, and thankfully so, it looks so much better installed correctly).

    Project D80 complete!

Here’s a before and after. I’m happy it’s finished, but enjoyed the process of restoring this thing and am a bit sad that it’s now complete.

    Updates on my project D80

Goodness me... Well, I certainly appreciate the compliments. I did not remove the bracket, just cut the sandpaper really small and used a q-tip to guide the piece of sandpaper and then painstakingly polish.

    Updates on my project D80

Thank you! Thank you for the compliment! I have a lot of fun doing the polishing, it just relaxes me.

    Updates on my project D80

Decal Decal is ordered! All original green trim (bag and everything is ordered). It’s at the finish line. Performs like it is new. It’s got a history for sure. I’ve decided to keep the belt lifter as is... I want a part of how I got it to remain as it was, and I figured because the lifter has...

    Updates on my project D80

Thank you! Thank you! This is my very first total restoration project. To say I’m extremely excited for it to be finished would be an understatement. The speed switch is on order. As purchased, it is hooked up on one speed, that will soon change. The polishing was quite a challenge. There...

    Updates on my project D80

So... I’ll try to be quick. 3 months ago, I bought a heavily used, terribly worn Kirby. A Kirby with an aftermarket cloth bag, a Classic III bag topper, a very faded green insignia on the belt lifter, and red trim. I live in St. Augustine, Florida - this machine was confirmed by the seller to...

    D80 Motor Brush Replacement.

I’m sorry it took me so long to reply... life kinda got in my way this week. Thank you everyone for all of the information! Truth is, I’m an idiot and I installed the fan spacer backwards. Everything runs great!

    D80 Motor Brush Replacement.

Very very possible... this machine was in truly sad shape when I found it. I got all of the metal bits polished (cannot believe how well it all came out) after which I decided it’d be worthwhile to dig into it and fix the rest. I did go about it the wrong way though. I removed a good bit of...

    D80 Motor Brush Replacement.

So, I just finished putting everything back together after replacing the carbon brushes on my project D80. I really thought it was a success until I turned the machine on and all it does now is make a buzzing noise. Any idea what I’m doing wrong? P.S. I’m a lifelong fan of Kirby, but a recent...

    Help identify Kirby

Was browsing through the Facebook marketplace and came across this. It looks like a parts bin mashup, but is in decent enough condition. It has the trim of a D50, handle fork of a D50, but stylings of a D80. What are your thoughts?

I’d Love to get to know more of you... PLEASE Comment.

Hello I’m a bit late to respond, but... here I am! I’ve always loved vacuums, Kirby in particular. It’s only recently (this past month) that I’ve really started collecting, reasons are lengthy but let’s just say I’m happy to finally be able to do what I’ve wanted for so long. I’ll attach...

    Mismatched Kirby

Ahhh! That makes sense. I can only wonder how long ago the swap took place. Also, how many people never noticed. The pictures I’ve posted are how I purchased the machine, I’ve done nothing to it. It needs a bit of correcting and polishing, but overall it’s in better shape than a lot of the...

    Mismatched Kirby

Hey everyone! I have a question... but before I ask, I have to explain what happened. Saw a nice looking Classic III on OfferUp, made an offer and it was accepted. Drove an hour and 20 minutes to pick it up. I arrive and the vacuum I bid on was not completely what was in the photo. I was a...

    I bought an Avalir 2 :)

Avalir 2 Congrats on your new Kirby! It’s beautiful! I’ve always wanted a brand new one myself, just need to be in a position where I can drop that kind of money without breaking a sweat! Anyhoo, just two days ago I’ve come the closest I’ve ever been to owning a brand new Kirby... Long...
