If you could re-engineer any machine in your collection, what would you change about it?

I have a Plastiflex cv electric gas pump handle hose. When I use my Eureka Vibragroomer power head from the 1279/89 canisters, it's a bit too short for me. The Eureka steel grip is a few inches longer.

    The cordless stick vac formfactor

I saw a funny reel posted yesterday by Owen Perkins from the Central VAC threads. He installs MD mostly. They call them stick vacs because when the battery dies, or parts aren't available, or they cost more than half of the price as new, you stick it!

If you could re-engineer any machine in your collection, what would you change about it?

Eureka steel canister vac electric hoses. The hand grips had no swivels. This made the hoses tear faster. The later crush proof hose was better, but still no swivels. I think the Hoover type wire reinforced hose was more flexible even without swivels. I don't like the final Eureka hoses that...

Airway too, but I don't remember if they used Eureka much later.

We had a model 1620. It was gold with small rear wheels.

Belt for a Eureka model 1279, or 1289 Rotomatic Vibragroomer I

Thanks guy's! The shop must have sold me a smaller #115 belt that's for a newer upright or something.

Belt for a Eureka model 1279, or 1289 Rotomatic Vibragroomer I

Hello , what is the correct belt? I have two sizes from a decade old purchase. No bag, The smaller belt has the number 115 on it. It doesn't fit. Too small. Does the Express style power nozzle take the same belt? I know they have the silver dots. Thanks in advance.

    Split level central vacuum

You could visit a dealer and they should have demonstration models set up for testing.

True, the older Eureka/Beam models have a sealed motor which is quieter also than the open armature motor. I also have a Beam Imperial for soft carpets with a cogged belt and florescent light. Not quiet.

Ok, then the 566Q must be way more stronger. Too much for our 1,450 sq. foot home. The 466Q packs plenty of power. It lift's up small rugs even with a bristle floor tool. Vacuuming toss pillows with down ticking requires the suction bleeder open or the upholstery tool gets pulled off.

Cogged belt power brushes are louder than smooth belt ones. A built in system is quieter than most upright vac's.

Most are about 60 to 70 DB with a muffler. A dishwasher is anywhere from 40 to 65 DB. A portable vacuum cleaner from 60 to 80 db.

How long does it take for the motor to ramp up? A second or two? It's not like it's 5. If I want my car to go 60, it takes 6 to 8 or more seconds. We have a Vacuflo 466Q and it does not have soft start. I just looked up the 566Q and it does not either. Bothe use a 7.2 inch 2 stage bypass metal...

    Ghetto, or Gerry/Jury rigged?

Oh, doing that would require swapping out the control board. I wouldn't for two reasons. 1; Chinese made relay/control boards are more suseptible to voltage spikes and surges. I unplug our new one after use. 2; An existing motor may not be designed for soft start. Miele uses it in their German...

    Central vacuum

With a muffler on the exhaust, most are not that loud. Quieter than a shop vac. Some have soft start control boards. Mine draws 13 amps. on start, and 11.5 under load. It has a rubber insulated top with vent holes around the edge for cooling air intake. Bypass 2 stage motor. It's rated at 59.7...

I wish I had thought to try that with my Hoover CV. A universal relay isn't fittable. Oh well, it was 30 years old, with a new motor 2 years ago though. Dealer gave us a $200 recycle trade credit on a new Vacuflo cyclonic.

Wow, a shame to not use it. I'd find a hallway wall or up the staircase wall easy to access the tubing upstairs. Is one inlet up there enough? Or sell it.

    belt missing

Bissel is disposable junk since they outsourced to China. My steam cleaner only lasted 3 years then it wouldn't heat. I only used distilled water in it. I will never buy another Bissel product. All that remains in Grand Rapids is R&D, accounting, and marketing. Plus Kathy Bissel's mansion.
