    Tristar dead?????

Kloveland, I just bought one I used to have several Compact models, and a Tristar  MG1 (A101), all of which I let go, but now reading this thread, I went on eBay looking for a late model Tristar in the best cosmetic condition I could get, and the Aire Jett that was out there yesterday was it...

    The V.C.C.C. Convention

Gottahaveahoove, yes to the Anthracite Museum I'm not a VCCC member at this time (I was, long ago) but I want to give my heartfelt endorsement of the idea of touring the Anthracite Museum. For those who have taken the tour, you understand. For those who haven't, it's totally fascinating and...

My new (to me) Hoover U4363-045

Hello all,   I just acquired this vacuum from eBay. This is my first Convertible since the late 1970s, so I wasn't aware that at some point Hoover switched to plastic bases. Actually that worked in my favor, because the paint scuffs came off more easily than from painted metal. The vacuum...

New (to me) Electrolux Ambassador 3

I like the two-tone too. It reminds me of my Aerus Lux 7000.   Joel

Which Eluxes match which Maytag washer the best?

Tough call Probably the L with the 70s washer, and if the Diamond J is white and chrome like mine, then it with the 90s washer. I can't decide on the one in the middle. Maytag sure did change their look over the years, but then so did everyone else. I was a teen in the 70s so I can relate to...

Height adjustment question for my new Sanitaire SC688B

I lkie that idea, but my town's only vacuum store doesn't sell Sanitaire, so I wouldn't expect them to carry the knob as it isn't a wearing part. Suggestions for where to get this knob will be appreciated. Also listing a few models that have the 8-position knob would be helpful.   Joel

Height adjustment question for my new Sanitaire SC688B

That's what I did too . . . . . . else I felt like I wasn't cleaning thoroughly. I'm glad I'm not the only one, and I won't sweat it. As I wrote above, I can live with the belt changes.   Joel

Height adjustment question for my new Sanitaire SC688B

Greetings all, today I vacuumed our sunroom and hallway, which has a mix of wool and polyolefin area rugs. The wool ones have cut pile about 1/2" long. The poly ones have very short cut pile, maybe 1/4". If I set the height adjustment low enough that the vacuum doesn't skim over some spots...

    Got my Sanitaire SC688B today!

Ben, I wasn't aware . . . . . . that the SC688B has been around for so long. With so many makes, it seems that model numbers hang around about as long as a paper towel. Good luck finding the early one you're searching for.   Joel

    Vintage Loveliness in Blue

Paint shade differences Nice. It appears that your model AE is a slightly brighter shade of blue than your E, same as my two.   Joel

    Got my Sanitaire SC688B today!

I didn't want to hijack the other Sanitaire thread, so I started this one. I didn't include an image because there are plenty of images of this model online. The vacuum is exactly what I expected and hoped for. I've only taken a few passes on my train room carpet, but I can feel the...

    Sanitare

Thanks for this thread! Good evening all,   I have been in the market for a '60s Hoover Convertible, and I have been watching eBay listings, but after reading this thread I just now purchased a Sanitaire 688B. The 2000 hour motor life made me say "here we go", and I look forward to the...

    Metal Royal Belt Questions

Oops, I already did From what I read, it seemed like knurled belts are OK so I bought a 3-pack. Oh well. I cleaned the sleeve bearings thoroughly with Q-tips and then applied two small drops of synthetic oil to each one. I will do this every time I clean the brushroll, and hopefully I'll be OK...

    Metal Royal Belt Questions

Good evening all,   I have a Royal metal Preferred Series model 6103 that desperately needs a new belt. It has a smooth belt now. Can I use a knurled belt? Also, are generic belts OK or should I buy genuine? I know that genuine parts often last longer, but I don't know if that truism applies...

    That 50s vibe!

Checkerboard floors and malts Huskyvacs, I like that idea but my wife and I chose the laminate to complement the hickory cabinets. We had checkerboard tile in the kitchen of our last house, and it was a lot of fun. Not visible in the images are the other accessories that lend a diner vibe, like...

    That 50s vibe!

Greetings everyone, now that I have the correct hose for my Electrolux AE, I thought I'd vacuum our "diner" with it. This is our canning kitchen in the basement, and after we renovated the space we added a vintage Formica table and chairs. The AE fits right in with that furniture, so when I was...

Considering buying a Lux Legacy - question though

Doesn't work for me on aluminum Jon, I just now tried it on the bag door of my model G. I didn't rub it for minutes, but the spot I did work on was no shinier, and nothing came off onto the eraser. Too bad, but that doesn't diminish my opinion of it. Not counting the physical abrasion of the...

Considering buying a Lux Legacy - question though

Success with Mr. Clean Magic Eraser Jon, thanks for your input on this product. It worked fantastically for me. I'm impressed enough that I posted a new thread about it under Household.   Joel
