Dear Santa, Better late than never!

'Twas the morning after Christmas, when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, except the pink aluminum West Bend percolator. The coffee beans were ground by the KitchenAid A-9 with care, In hopes that fresh coffee soon would be there; When out in the living room there arose...

"Microwave Ovens - The Proven Dangers"

Not that I think microwaves are harmful, but you can't always rely on harmful things being pulled from shelves. You can still go to the store and buy cigarettes, after all.

    Beware...It's The Satan Chair!!!

It's sad/annoying that it's come to the point of feeling the need to post disclaimers. People these days are way too easily offended and jump at the opportunity to become a victim. Toughen up and ignore stuff that you don't agree with! Now back to your regularly scheduled pseudo-satanic chair...

Kirby 515 with a new owner

Daniel, The bag has a strong spring sewn into it. If there is a plastic bag guard around where it connects, you will want to first remove that (it will end up being around the bag at first, since it wont stretch enough to get it off of the bottom of the emtor). Then you will need to pry the...

Kirby 515 with a new owner

Daniel, SEM (and probably others as well) makes a special paint specifically for painting vinyl and rubber, and it is flexible. You might be able to find it at a larger auto parts store, since it is primarily used in the auto industry. I think this is what most people use for their restorations.

    Beware...It's The Satan Chair!!!

"makes me laugh knowing others would be nervous" Especially since it's a symbol that's even used in old churches: "Superficially the Green Man would appear to be pagan, perhaps a fertility figure or a nature spirit, similar to the woodwose (the wild man of the woods), and yet he frequently...

It's Beginning to Look a Lot Like Hoover!

Just wanted to share the fruits of my weekend labor: Photo 1: 90th Anniversary Hoover Ornament featuring a woman using a Suction Sweeper Photo 2: Christmas tree wrapped in Noma "saucer" bubble lights from 1948 and vintage blown glass bulbs dating from the turn of the century into the 60s Photo...

    When Armatures Attack

Just finished the 513 this morning. Looks pretty sharp even with the tan trim. And best of all, it's spider free!

    The Hoover 450 Saga

To re-wire the handle on these, you first need to unplug the handle from the base. The you can unscrew the plug bits at the end, then unscrew the switch plate and pull all of the wiring out of the handle. At that point, you can replace all of the wiring with new stuff. One you have the switch...

    When Armatures Attack

James, It won't be anything spectacular, it was factory rebuilt in 1995, so of course it has been stripped of all its original trim and replaced with tan blahness. It was however, the cleanest field coil I've seen to date, minus the abomination lurking within. I plan on using it as my "daily...

    When Armatures Attack

I needed a break from working on my Hoover 725 last night, so I pulled a Kirby 513 off of my "to do" shelf and quickly dismembered it to begin cleaning. When I pulled the armature out, I discovered a bit of a surprise. What appeared to be a member of the widow family had made a little nest in...

    Hoover "Coffee Can" Help

I got the motor all reassembled last night. However, the brushes are arcing excessively against the commutator (excessive is an understatement). I thought I had put them back in their original holders and orientation, but maybe I got them mixed up. I just ordered some cleaning/seating stones and...
