add vintage and the price goes up :) Some of the sellers are pretty crazy. There is one that sprays the whole machine, and then lists it as a "metal canister Electrolux" at insane prices. Interesting that the machines are not disassembled, and painted properly. Nope, spray the handle...

well, central vacuum is a misnomer. The new generation Chrysler minivans (2017 Pacifica) will offer a vacuum if you order the Limited Platinum. But, you forgo the spare (if you want to call it that) to get it.  

The names always throw me off. To me a Simplicity is a mower and a Riccar is a sewing machine. I guess I am getting old :) The Tacony vacuums look awesome. Miele's are more predominant where I live.

A pic of the plate showing the manufacturers info would help. As mentioned, the model number would help, as well as pics of the vacuum.

Olympia One, Super J is easy. You need to take the top cover of first. There are two visible screws on the top near the bag door, and two others visible when you slide the blower shutter.cover  open. Once that is off you will see two screws on top, and one underneath for the cordwinder...

As someone mentioned, the switch may be generic. You should try to get to it, and post pics if you can. There may be markings on it, that would help find a replacement. Right now, Sears PartsDirect has diagram & electrical schematics for 17 Iona vacuum models. It would be helpful to...

I assume that thick part is where the batteries are. That is why I suggested a re-engineering to put them into the base.  

Weight! the plastic canisters weigh about 4 lbs less than the metal canister ones (coming in at just under 13 lbs)  The Super J variants weigh in just over 17 lbs. As expected, the 1205 slightly under 17 lbs, followed by the Diamond Jubilee at just over 15 lbs.
