    Where do you get them???

Goodwill has been "upscaling" its stores over the past year or two along the lines of Value Village and so the chances of finding more vintagey appliances in them is also dwindling . Still there's plenty of others around.. St.Vincent de Paul, Bibles for Missions, and my favorite Habitat for...

    Where do you get them???

Put want ads on craigslist and freecycle.org. To use freecycle though you first have to offer something for free before you can ask for something.. at least you used to.

A Pair of Vintage Floor Polishers

That's the quintessential green GE polisher that almost everyone had back in the day. Mom had one and I still see them popping up now and again. I've passed on my polisher collection now to another keeper, can't keep everything and I needed space so they're now at the Stratford Repository

Vacuum Cleaners Currently on the Japanese Market

Brian I haven't been downtown TO for a couple of years.. do you ever see any of those little Japanese vacs in some of those camera/electronics stores along Yonge? I remember seeing one or two last time

What is this? Vacuum - Beater Household Mfg Co

I have one almost, if not, identical and it's called the Pneu-Sweep from 1915 iirc. There's a bellows mechanicsm driven by the drive wheels that sucks up the dirt into a thin cloth back accessible by taking off the wooden front portion. Then theres the carpet sweeper brushroll and pans...

Great pics... what's the story behind American Lincoln, news to me. Wonder if they're the same company that make Lincoln welders etc.

    black and decker collector

B&D actually had a real canister vac back in the 80/90's called the Valet.. it looked sort of Eureka ish. Chad found one here a couple of years back. I don't imagine they're that common.

    How I find old cleaners!

Baby stuff... yes unfortunately most of the garage/yard sales here are the same way. Full of plastic Playskool toys and kids outdoor plastic crap. When I drive by I try and get a good look and see if it's even worth stopping, many I just keep driving.

    How I find old cleaners!

btw re yard/estate sales... here's what I do if I haven't mentioned it already.. I sit down at the table with the newspaper listings of yard sales and punch each one of the addresses into my GPS and save it using the name GS1 GS2 GS3 etc. Then in the morning when you start up your GPS you go...

    How I find old cleaners!

That's exactly how I find all my stuff,,yard sales, thrift shops and I go often. Or at least I did.. almost everyday. You can also post a "wanted" ad free on freecycle.org in your area.. got some that way as well.

Need help determining vacuum year and worth (if any)

You should post a picture of the chest as well closed.. that's an important feature for some who collect vacs.

You made some good points though I'm not totally swayed. I agree though on the diminished format over the last few years. I don't find the mag as interesting a read as I used to with the condensed articles. Where did you find out that Miele asked for their test results etc and were refused?

    Simplicity and Riccar

Re the Windtunnel filtering as well as the Miele Red Star...why does that sound so improbable. It's easily measurable with the right electronic equipment which I'm pretty sure they use for such measuring so I don't think they would publish it without it being true since manufacturers could...

    Simplicity and Riccar

thanks for the info I've only tried the Miele uprights once and found it very top heavy from the get go although it wasn't hard to push/pull. Not a problem for me but it would be for someone like my mom and sisters I really like the Miele Allervac I found last month. I just have it on the...

    Simplicity and Riccar

I've been reading CR for approx 40 years now or more beginning back as a teen when my dad had a subscription. I've had my subscription almost non-stop since I left home in 75. I do trust their testing methods and reliability reports. What irks me are people who continue to claim most vehemently...

~ Vax Mach Air Force ~

Unbelievable it can't handle long hair. It would fare well on all the long dog hair in our house.

    Seattle Mini Meet

Sounds like a great time I wished I could have been there as well, plus I love Seattle from all the visits back when I used to live in Vancouver BC. . I love my 89, it's pretty complete now thanks to Doug sending me some missing attachments. It's one of the few vacs I can run anytime and not get...
