    GE Swivel Top

Under the front desk! At our Kirby factory distributorship we kept a GE swivel top under the counter and one in the work bench area. Ran both of those all day every day cleaning in and around our Kirby repairs. So much air movement even on a full tank, and easily cleanable. Love the old GE...

    Another Hoover "Grande DAM"

I found a 1973 Power Drive DAM Hoover on e-bay. Everything is there and runs fine and I will probably have questions for some of you on restoring her. I have no knowledge of the power drive systems for vacuum cleaners...this one's works but it seems a little sluggish/irregular. I don't know...

    Belden Kirby Cords (1967-1983)

Belden made an earlier design (for rubber rationing days) that utilized a composite insulation that made for a very heavy and stiff cord. The plug had either "Belden" or "Kirby" embossed. The same gauge and design were used on Oster hair clippers and massage instruments in the forties. The...

    Spencer Turbine

I am pretty sure that Spencer "Orgoblow" are still being manufactured for modern pipe organ builders. I believe that our Cathedral's new Zimmer organ has a Spencer blower.

    Whats your favorite vintage vacuum?

The Hoover model 28 models with the rarely found steel motor hood! I do not know why Hoover made some 28's with steel motor hoods...but you do not have to worry about them breaking if something falls on them as with bakelite hoods.

A Sad Vacuum Story...for me, at least!

Ya know.....sixty dollars is a lot of money----but with such vintages as Sanitronic it is ALWAYS an investment to buy even a doggy one. The motor parts, toe touch control, badge, safety switch. You have a good foundation when you include parts machines.....and clean up is soooo easy! Get some...

    Electrolux Model G

I simply adore the G. When I was a child my mother "borrowed" one on loan from the Electrolux salesman for the weekend---and I tried to "hide it" behind the living room chair so they couldn't take it back! One of my machines now is a harvest gold G from 1966. It is so quiet and powerful. I...

Hoovers Used in Schools Back in the Day

I remember a big black Hoover Commercial. It had a frame just like a model 29, but had a smallish, square motor. It had a full size "H Master Delux" shake out bag. The bottom was crackle gray and the rest was black. It was extremely heavy (I gave it a try:) and you could feel the agitator in...

    Kirby 1-CB motor issues

I'm with the guys....you have to eliminate the fan's condition before considering other avenues..and speaking from experience with Kirbys of all year/models, I know that as the impeller gets "sand blasted" by normal use, it does leave some erosion on the blades. Now this is not a problem in and...

    Electrolux model RC

Hi guys! I just received in the mail an Electrolux model RC. The machine is very clean, runs very well, and seems well cared for. My Lux collection ranges from 1954-1966 roughly so here is another Lux. Just wanted to share it with you. I sincerely hope and pray that each of you is OK in the...

    Panasonic/Sears Kenmore: Cyclonic mechanism

Hi space age vacuum people! :) I am usually on the vintage thread but I need your guidance. I am rebuilding for a friend a Kenmore upright vacuum cleaner that is manufactured by Panasonic for Sears/Kenmore. The machine has a rotating brush device that turns and in so doing removes dust as it...

    LOT. Vintage Vacuums

Re-The Spencer Turbine Hi! I just wanted to put in a plug for your Spencer tubine; If you are selling it on e-bay, you might want to put it under the category of "Pipe Organs", "Organs", or Musical Instruments. I know that sometimes your type of vacuum there is used to drive automaton band...

SOMEONE TELL ME I'M NOT CRAZY. HOPESTER

It will get better hon...... It will get better....these guys are right on! You are taking care of things and that is what these old machines represent don't they? A vac builder cared enough to do the hard work to make a machine worthy of its name. The same is true of life..we do what we...

Welcome to our new Kirby 519

We took a Kirby 519 off of e-bay, vacuum only no tools...but a really authentic and originally outfited upright machine. Has all the original red, the grey cord with red ends, and the only facet that was not original was the bag. It had had a replacement Kirby bag of the Sanitronic era...

    Kirby 514

Hi Ben; Actually, the only Kirby I have presently is a 560 that is in satisfactory condition. I would like to find a 514/15 because I have always wished to add that to my vacuum cleaner family. Eventually I will want to fix up this machine once found....it is a favourite Kirby of mine. I...

    Hot cord

I might add that, most American homes' electrical outlets are 'hotter' that is, carry more average voltage than fifty years ago. We always spoke of 110/115 or 110/120 volts; now, most homes are 120 and even 125 volts! Those old vacs will handle it--but as others have said, a new cord is in...

    kirby 561 pic and questions

If you can obtain an original model 560 belt lifter and it fits the hole where you have removed the one you have, then it is an original 560; the Sanitronics all had a larger diameter fitting at the nozzle and thus, the proper Sanitronic magic finger lifter will not insert into a 560, it will...
