Anyone know what kind of vac this is?

Not an extractor ... at least not in the traditional sense. It's a pile lifter. Two heavy duty motors, an aggressive brush. Not for daily use. http://www.jondon.com/catalog/product_info.php?products_id=824

Bison roaming here in the UK...

A beautiful machine, a great example of Ocala's finest. Congratulations!

    what is this thing?

John, you're on the right track. But this machine DOES have a separate high-powered vacuum motor. "Certified" in this case is the brand name, not a description. See the link below for more info. Note the weight -- 67 LBS. http://www.baneclene.com/catalog/pile-lifter.pdf

    Eureka Excalibur, Made in Sweden?

Re: Made in Sweden Remember guys, Electrolux Sweden has owned Eureka (formerly Eureka-Williams) for more than 35 years. No surprise the TOL machine was made in the home country. Rick C.

    Question about Bison

Negotiate I got my Centurion from a vac shop in Daytona Beach a couple of years ago for $85. He was asking $150, and when I asked him if he'd come down, we agreed on $85. It was sitting in the window of the shop with a tag marked $250 on it. Sure, it's rare, but it's gonna be a pretty limited...

    Clarke Commercial Oreck Copy

I don't know about your chances of finding a 550, but you might have a good shot at finding the later 577 and 579 machines. They were once fairly common in hotels, convention centers and the like. Two-motor, clean air design. Very similar to their competitor, the original Advance Carpetwin, they...

    Question about Bison

I have a little fun with my Mark II every once in a while. I'll start it on low in the garage (with the door open, of course). Then I gradually turn up the speed, and the whine increases like a jet revving for takeoff, until the motor's screaming at full speed. Makes the neighbors wonder what's...

    Question about Bison

Ocala, NOT Omaha Brandon, no offense, but the Bisons were made here in Ocala, Florida, not Omaha. There should be a metal tag on the machine that says Ocala, and the owner's manual at one point had a picture of the plant facing Interstate 75. The former plant site is about three miles from my...

    Clarke Commercial Oreck Copy

I've never seen a Clarke like that. Based on info from the Clarke website, it looks like it was made sometime between 1971 and 1982, the years that Clarke-Gravely was the company name. http://www.clarkeus.com/AboutClarke/History.aspx

    Nilfisk Carpetwin 14

Re: the Carpetwin 16XP Calum, Keep in mind the 16XP is designed for daily use on low-pile commercial carpet, such as hospital or hotel lobbies and corridors. An institutional/business housekeeping department is more about efficiency than really deep cleaning most of the time. With high suction...

    Nilfisk Carpetwin 14

If you want to see a U.S.-built, Advance-designed Carpetwin, try this one -- the current model of a machine that's been in production for 40+ years: http://www.advance-us.com/Products/Commercial/Vacuums/CarpeTwin16XP.aspx

    Nilfisk Carpetwin 14

Call it an Advance, not a Nilfisk Andrew, That machine is known in the commercial cleaning world as an Advance Carpetwin, not a Nilfisk. Advance is an old-line U.S.-based commercial machine manufacturer that merged into Nilfisk about a decade ago, IIRC. The folks who sell bags, parts and...

    Upright Electrolux?

I have a pair of these beasts. It's an interesting machine, if not exactly practical. Built like a tank, and about as heavy as one. Honestly, it makes a Kirby -- any Kirby -- feel like a lightweight. The weight's comparable to some of the big commercial machines such as an old Advance Carpetwin...

My Windsor/SSS Versamatic Has arrived with some problems

A bit late, but this might help ... David, There should be a microswitch in the cleaner body where the hose goes in. Pull the hose out for above-floor cleaning, the brush motor shuts off. It's possible this switch could have gone bad, or it could just be loose. Worth a look. Rick C.

How many Kirbys do you have?

5.5 511 519 Legend II Hand vac that matches the Legend II colors Gen 3 (daily driver) and the .5 - a "Supervac 180" commercial machine that's obviously a 500/Sanitronic series with an 18" permanently attached brush head. Done in red, white and blue, of course, with no mention of either Kirby...

    Geier Electro Hygiene Vacuum

About that Model O .... John, I seriously doubt anyone's going to pay $10,000 for a vacuum cleaner, no matter how rare, but I could be wrong. However, the thing to keep in mind about Kyle's Model O is that it was basically THE first electric home vacuum cleaner.Let's face it, NO other vac will...

    Who makes Clarke Vacs?

Clarke was a long-time American brand, dating back to the 1920s if I recall correctly. Originally based in Michigan, I think. They used to make nearly all of their own equipment, very good commercial vacs, floor scrubbers, buffers, etc. In the 1990s they were acquired by ALTO, an international...

Bison returns to its ancestral home!

Great news, guys. I finally found a working Bison! I've been looking for one for about five years now. Since the factory was here in Ocala, it just seemed natural to get one. I stopped to browse a vac shop in South Daytona Beach a couple of weeks ago. The shop was already closed for the day...
