    Bison

RE: Headlight bulb I'm at work at the moment, so I can't double check on my machine, but if memory serves, that is a 24-volt bulb. Just to fill in a little history, Bisons were made here in Ocala, Fla., in a factory just off I-75. IIRC -- Clay Floyd would know this better than I would -- the...

    American Restoration

For what they charged... I would HOPE the thing would run perfectly! Did you see what the cost of that restoration was? $5,000! I'm willing to bet it could have been done just as well or better by some of the members of this forum for about $4,800 less than that!

    SSS Twin Power Vac Upright

SSS, pronounced "Triple-S" is a private-label janitorial industry provider. They typically sell products -- including vacs, floor machines, carpet equipment, chemicals and paper goods -- made by the name-brand manufacturers, but done in the SSS colors and with a SSS label. The SSS version sells...

Some Rare Vintage Vacuums for Sale! - Bison and Lux Upright

Bison The Bison was built in Ocala, Florida in the 70s and early 80s. Heavy, bulky and not well-built, they are powerful, yes, but definitely are NOT quiet. They have a rheostat speed control and the very noisy GE motor ramps up like a jet taking off when you crank up the control. Closer to...

    Windsor Versamatic 14"

Great machines The Versamatics (and their Sebo counterparts) are wonderful machines. One small thing to keep in mind is that the hose needs to be VERY firmly in place at the bottom to engage the microswitch that turns on the brush motor.

Bison History Made 40 Years Ago Today (10/29)

Today is a significant day in Bison history. On this date in 1971, the first Bison built in Ocala rolled off the assembly line. It was presented to the mayor of the city. See link for details...

    vintage tornado shop vacuum

Here's A Link... to the History section of the Tornado website... To add a bit to what Tolivac mentioned above, while the company wasn't founded by a woman, Linda S. Breuer was the last family member to run the company, succeeding her father as president/CEO in 1996, three years before the...

    My first....

Nebraska Furniture Mart Brandon, It's ironic that you bought your DC17 at Nebraska Furniture Mart. NFM is owned by Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway, the parent company of Scott Fetzer, which of course, in turn, is the parent company of Kirby. Rick C.

    My Goodwill Outlet find...Electrolux!!!

Love the Goodwill Outlet It's a great source for me. I've found Luxes -- almost always in pairs, for some reason -- several Kirbys of all ages, Hoovers and others. My best score was the week I found a Miele Solaris Electro Plus. Went back a few days later and found a Flamenco II as well...

    Electrolux upright

Bill's link above has several pictures that show the 1451 in detail. Mine is the 1363. I've always wondered, can anyone tell me the differences between that and the 1451?

    Electrolux upright

Old Lux "Heavy Duty" Uprights I like the old beasts. Built like a tank, and about as heavy as one, too. Does a nice job on my medium-pile carpet. Not too loud, not too shrill. My only real complaint is that the cord's too short. Would be nice if it had a headlight too, but not a big deal...

Anyone have info on the new Kirby ?

Nothing to apologize for... ... No need to say you're sorry, Dan. I'm not misinterpreting anything. I have clicked on the links above and seen the patent info you refer to. There is NOTHING in those documents that says "this vacuum will be branded as a Kirby." NOTHING. Based only on those...

Anyone have info on the new Kirby ?

Just A Thought .... Has anyone considered the possibility that the Avalir might not actually BE a Kirby? Remember, Scott Fetzer also sells vacs under the Douglas and ReadiVac names -- which are considerably lighter and less expensive than a Kirby. Just wondering .....

Brush Roll Motor for Advance Carpetwin 14/140

I've always liked the old Carpetwins. They're great machines, and yes, you called it right when you said they were massive. One thing to consider -- my understanding is there was a relay on these machines to start the brush motor. Are you sure the motor is bad and not just the relay? If it's...

    Upright vacuums

Re: Two-motor uprights "Uprights with a two motor system are fairly new" -- Not really. Two motor commercial vacs have been around since at least 1964, the year Advance introduced the Carpetwin. Advance claims the Carpetwin was the original clean-air commercial vac. If I'm not mistaken...
